It's the throttle cable scraping inside the metal joint about 6inches from the end at the controller . Everything is pulled with rope waiting to pull new cables. Thanks everyone for the time, knowledge, and suggestions.

I thought it was good because I put it in neutral and hooked to trans which was also in neutral and all seems right. The trans lever engages before carb lever starts to move but I guess I only did half the job. I will totally unhook from Morse, carb, and trans and start From scratch. Thanks for the info.

Those are indications of your adjustment being way out of whack. The button doesn't fully disengage, and the throttle is stiff Been there before Like a lot of other things, the first time you adjust your cables, it seems like a lot of black magic and voodoo is involved...........second time after you figure it out, it's a piece of cake

Another detail I forgot about is the throttle only button used to stay out until manually pushed back in now sucks itself back in when lever goes back to neutral and it also spins when pulled out and lever is being pushed forward. I think it must have something to do with scraping sound.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger as far as the picture posting If it didn't scrape before, it shouldn't be scraping now, I think you have the "rough adjustment" done and if you play with the barrel connector adjustment for a fine adjustment, you'll make everything smooth without getting a new controller........unless you have this wild urge to get a new one.  |

Scraping is inside controller at the helm . Probably needs replaced as it's original mv1.

It was the shift cable mount. Had to move it up 1 hole on actuator.

When the button is IN, the throttle lever moves both the throttle cable and the shift lever. The resistance is clearly in the shifter cable and probably where it’s melted. Disconnecting the transmission shifter cable at the trans will allow one to see if there is resistance in the cable alone or if it’s in the new 80A actuation lever. |

You also mention " In throttle only with button pulled out its fine " If this is truly the case, then your throttle cable is OK as it is moving the carb conection but not shifting the transmission. This sounds to me like a binding in the assembly when teh transmission is in forward. that is why I mentioned adjusting it as in the posted link. Good Luck

It's been said a couple of times, the muffler won't melt the cable covering and if it did, you would have melted the fiberglass muffler.
The only thing that get's hot enough in normal conditions is the exhaust manifold where it bolts to the head before the water jacketed part of the manifold. Why not disconnect the transmission cable at the transmission and the throttle cable at the engine and play with the shifter to see if everything is smooth or not? It's cheap (like Free) and easy to do before you get thinking about replacing anything It would at least tell you if the cables are good, then if they are good, you just have some adjustments to make.

I've alreay been thinking about different routing but it's going to tough to avoid the muffler and just how hot should it ever get? I would think not hot enough to melt cable jacket.

No I had a shop install it. I had the old one removed by a different shop also had them winterize because it was already there and I've been wondering all winter if they got it hot because I saw the melt when I brought it home but didn't know if it was already there when I bought her 4 months earlier and that's when throttle got stiff. Also when I checked the block it was mostly water so they sent a different guy to my house to redo it.. Ithink the dumb kid had trouble winterizing with tranny out and thought the same as you about water flow and the possible implications to the motor but it runs fine now.. I should have done it myself as I normally dothis is why I didn't let them install new one. Anyway guess I'll take controller off and see if it's that or cable. I'm guessing cable because that melted spot is probably catching but strangely not so much in reverse.

From his old posts, it looks like he did it himself, so he may have to talk to himself about the install. Nothing wrong with that
If I had a cable whose outer covering was melted by the muffler, I might wonder how much cooling water was going through that muffler and why the muffler hasn't melted through. The shift lever on an 80A is in a lot different position than it is on a 40A so even with a new bracket in the kit, I'd imagine some adjustment is necessary on the transmission end of the cable.

Yes, you have an issue with binding but why is what you need to find out. Sounds like the problem came up after the trans swap and then with you saying an area of the cable jacket is melted, I say there's a cable routing problem. Are there any sharp bends in the cable? Have you talked to the person who did the trans swap?

Sounds like you have an issue with binding. There are instructions here for adjusting the cables.

I recently had a new pcm 80 transmission installed in my 93 sport and now the throttle lever is super stiff only in the forward travel. In throttle only with button pulled out its fine and in reverse with button in its also fine also fine until just past the point where shift lever on tranny flips into gear just hard from there to full forward. I noticed that the cable has melted about a 1 1/2 inch long spot where it contacts the muffler which has me worried as I wouldn't think it should get that hot. Anyway I'm just trying to figure out if I should buy a new cable and if so what length.
