You might want to call Perfect Pass and confirm, but I seem to recall reading that you can leave the paddle wheel and use it just for water temp readings with the Star Gazer system. Having just installed the SG system I can tell you it would be nice to have that water temp reading.

Isn't there a little filler piece that fits in there? I've been in a few boats that had one in the glove box, just a blank filler in case you ever had to remove the paddlewheel, or if it got damaged.
I mean, long term, I guess the depth finder is a better use, but there was an easy solution from the factory, as far as I know. |

I’m convinced. I like the Hawkeye thru-hull with water temp. Ordering today...
Anybody want to buy a working paddlewheel PP? JQ

That would be a nice unit with the air and water temp. With the hole there already I would consider it. To buy glass supplies and gel you will be hard pressed to do it for $139 doing it yourself. A little 5200 and that thing is done. Water temp was always something my sport Nautique was lacking. I solved it with a $6 digital aquarium thermometer mounted on my dock.

Jonny When he uses fancy words like "fortuitously" that's a sure sign that you should put a thru hull like the Hawkeye in the link ![]() Cheaper than fiberglass work too if you're paying somebody to do the glassing..

Fortuitously that is the exact size needed for some of the through hull depth finders:
https://hawkeyeelectronics.com/collections/boat-mount/products/depthtrax-2bx-boat-mount-depth-finder On my other boat I have the transom mounted one, versus the through hull. Through hull is better but who wants to drill a hole in a perfectly good boat. These also give air and water temp, which is kind of interesting. PS: I loved the Flex Seal quip. Ba ha ha

Two inch hole is a pretty big hole. Why not just leave paddle wheel in place, even if disconnected? Not hurting anything, is it?

Y the way I put Star Gazer in my 2004 SN, easy installation. Couldn’t live without it now. Anyone can drive, just set the speed before taking your set.

Flex Seal of course. I saw it on tv, it must be true. Seriously one of the fiberglass experts will hook you up.

I'm looking for suggestions here...
2001 model year SNOB. The boat came with factory-installed paddle-wheel PerfectPass with single-line display. I want to upgrade to a GPS system, either PP Star Gazer or Hydrophase Ride Steady. Either way, I want to completely remove the paddle-wheel system from the boat...and that means pulling the paddle-wheel from the hull. That will leave me with a 2" or so hole in a not-so-good place. I'm looking for ideas on how to plug the hole in the hull after I remove the paddle-wheel. I've looked around for some through-hull fittings, but couldn't find anything that seemed like an obvious fix. At this point, I don't really want to have the fiberglass shop patch the hole. Any suggestions you gents may have would be welcome. JQ
