Hi Chris,
I would say that it probably distorts it, however, that can be easily addressed by running it through a surfacer. For myself, I would definitely opt for a new manifold if one was available and I could afford it. But I might try something like this on a hard-to-find, or a hard-to-purchase manifold. Or if I just had to get back on the water no matter what. He posts a picture at the very end of the video with the finished product and I think it is very impressive.

I'm wondering how flat the exhaust port surfaces are after all that heat in the middle.
If anyone does this repair, please wear welding gloves!!!
