Thank you so much for the input!! Ill have to go tonight and check it all out. I'm pulling the fuel tank tonight any how, so thatll give me reason to test it.

Preston,
Regarding checking the sender wire from the tank to the gauge, a Ohm check is best. Sounds like you do have a VOM (volt Ohm meter) so great. Because the test leads aren't long enough to reach, you'll need a jumper wire connected at one end going ether to the tank or gauge. Then it's just checking the resistance in the "loop" with the VOM set to Ohms. You will get some resistance due to the length of wire but it will be minimal. If you get a infinity reading, then there's no continuity. You'll then need to trace the sender wire to see where there's a break but also check any connections. Who knows, maybe there's no need for that new gauge and or sender?

No, I did not confirm it. I was planning on re wiring all the wires having to do with that any how. But how would one go about doing that? I did check it, but have not checked it while its on the water. Im thinking its coming from the speedo cables. I got new ones coming in today to re-route all the air cables.

Regarding the water in the bilge, Do check the prop shaft packing at the log.

I tried jumping the ground from various locations and none of them works, last night I went ahead and bought a new sending unit and gauge. I also replaced the bilge pump with a new one, old one was shot. As far as the leak goes, I filled the inside of the boat up with so much water. Not a single drop was coming out.

How did you check the ground at the tank? Did you confirm the tank/sender is grounded by Ohming between it and the engine block? Did you get a chance to confirm continuity of the sender wire between the tank and gauge? Try jumpering the sender wire directly to the engine block.

I just rigged up a simple circuit directly from the battery, and the gauge would move, but only go directly down. Yes I did have the ignition to on. I did pull the ground off the sending unit to check and it is getting a ground.

Trace back to where you are loosing the power. How are you temporarily putting 12 volts to the gauge? BTW, did you have the ingition switch turned to the run position? Did you check to see if the tank/sender is grounded? That's the ground source for the circuit.

I was not getting 12 volts to the gauge. but even when trying to put 12 volts to the gauge it still would not work. How would I fix the 12 volts to gauge? It was actually reading like 1 volt... really weird

Preston,
Regarding the fuel gauge, make sure you are getting 12 volts to the gauge, The fuel tank is grounded and the sender wire from the tank to the gauge has continuity with close to zero resistance. A quick check to determine if the gauge is good is to ground the sender wire at the tank. This removes the resistance of the sender so the gauge should peg.

But if you search around here, there are multiple threads on these issues that should help. And...welcome.

Okay, so for starters, I was asked to work on this boat for my girlfriends elder uncle. He would like to see it in mint shape as it once was. Finally got the boat lake ready. Required a card rebuild and an ignition issue. Now, my issues are. Gas gauge not works (have a new sending unit and gauge on the way), chasing a pain in the a$$ leak (found the rubber exhaust in the rear was cracked and leaking when sitting. found this by having the boat out of the water and filling up the inside with a hose. But still have a leak). Last major issue just ran into yesterday, bilge pump no longer works. cant really use the boat until that bilge pump starts working again. Any help or advice on common leaking spots or bilge issues or even fuel gauge not working would be appreciated.
