Carburetor needing to be tweaked comes immediately to mind.
You mentioned that the carb as been cleaned…has it been rebuilt? How did you adjust the idle circuit? Accelerator pump circuit? What RPMs are indicated on the tachometer at idle? JQ

Folks, I need to clarify my earlier post. The boat dies when I’m leaving a no wake zone,or after idling to pick up someone in the water. You hit the throttle and the engine dies. Thanks again

My 83 Ski Nautique 2001,with 351 Ford Commander power. Will idle great all day,but as soon as I put in gear it dies. I can play with the throttle, and use the boat, but this is a real pain.we have cleaned the carb, set the floats, adjusted the idle and accelerator pump, and the timing. Anyone out there had this issue ? And if so, how did you resolve it. Thanks Bob in Wichita
