Great pictures!  I had a chance to buy Kevin's boat up in Seattle after he traded it in.

After seeing lots of pictures of stringer jobs in 80's boats, these are completely different

I'm going to put some foam in it and call it a day!

If you were to click on the link below and do a lot of surfing down to the section titled "The end of the Tree Nautique" you'll see plenty of pictures of a 93 hull being reduced to lotsa small pieces including some cross sectional views of the subfloor and stringers.

It's from KRoundy quite a few years ago

It may or may not help, but you won't know till you look at the pictures Wink

When the brochure refers to "Integrated Fiberglass construction" , Is that a fiberglass tube, or composite stringer wrapped in FG?

Why is there nothing inside of that stringer?

Thanks

You dont need to drill looking for the stringers. Go to the '95 brochure and theres a pic of a cross section of the foam and stringers.

The different glass and paint over the strut  is normal.

I started out to replace the carpet in my 96 176. Last summer I found a soft spot and drilled a hole to inspect. It was wet at the hull but not soaked. This summer I start working on it again and the original spot has dried out. After I pull the carpet, I find a couple more soft spots. I drill some exploratory holes and find mostly dry foam. There’s one spot where I end up cutting out a section of floor and remove some wet foam, but the foam on either side is still dry. Next to the wet foam is a vertical section of fiberglass that I assume is a coated stringer. I drill a couple of 1/8” holes hoping to find a solid stringer but the drill bit just hits air. Was there a stringer there? We’re there FG channels built for rigidity?   When scooping out the foam I found a drilled out plug that is covered in more recent foam. Clearly I’m not the first person in here.

There’s a spot on the other side where when drilling foam I find another layer of FG about 1” down. Is this another place where there’s a stringer missing? Did someone go in and cut the stringers out and not replace them?

In the bilge of my boat there’s a section of paint or gel coat that’s a different color than the rest. I’m guessing it’s a repair where the strut got hit. Was this a sinker in its previous life?

I guess I’ll go check the cradle bolts and drill a couple of small holes in the main stringers.

I could use some ideas or feedback.

Thanks
