Agree completely, that's my experience as well. I'm a GT-40 fan, prefer the engine personally, but would not for a minute hesitate to buy an Excal boat. Also agree with Gary. I don't feel there is enough difference, and both are such capable engines, that I'd buy the best value/condition if it were me, not decide based on the engine.

Here is the catch - the Excalibur is out of production as well and knowing PCM's lack of support for older engines I would not count on anything. Common Chevy/GM parts will be no trouble but IMHO the ecm's will be the first hard to get parts just like the Fords,followed by what ever Pleasurecraft decides they just don't want to make anymore. Others will know the differences in the hulls but as long as either engine pass inspection,interior and hull condition are just as important on 20 year old boats. Full interior could be almost as much as an engine rebuild.

Having owned both I can tell you my opinion. The GT 40 is a great engine, lots of torque and it pulls like a freight train. As it is now a 26 year old design parts will be more difficult to acquire in the long term.
The Excalibur 330 hp runs more smoothly and is a bit easier on gas consumption. Parts are readily avalable and should be for a long time. A bit less torque than the GT 40 but I pull a 270 pound slalom skier with ease on a short setup. Drive both and for your own opinion. Have fun!

I’m looking at a 2000 Sport Nautique and a 2003 Sport Nautique. As far as I can see the biggest difference is in the engine and I think the 2003 would have different hull? Anyone have an opinion on which engine is better or difference in either boat in general or am I splitting hairs? We are primarily a family of skiers and general family boating.
Only 4 months till the thaw! -Mike
