Well.  The gas cap that arrived looks nothing like the picture on the eBay ad.  It does however look like the one referenced in DenDen’s post.  I sent seller a message and am patiently waiting for a response.

Thanks for thinking of me and yes I’m still looking. The one on eBay does seem a bit pricey but it’s only money, right?

That looks very similar as well.  I will wait on this one for while longer.

Den

There are piles of gas caps for sale out there that are close but don't have the same threads

Nautiqueparts sells one that's in that category. It's an aftermarket cap and filler assembly that works as long as the person is willing to do a little extra work and replace the  whole assembly and not just take the new cap and screw it into the old filler neck.

Plenty of others out there at a cheaper price than the one mentioned above from Nautiqueparts

The one that Bill bought probably has at best a 50/50 chance of screwing right in

I stumbled into it because I bought a gauge panel from a 70's  boat that had gauges, switches and labels that are the same as a mid to late 70's Ski Nautique at a "pretty cheap " price and looking at his other listings afterward, the gas cap was there.

Using some convoluted, twisted logic I figured it probably came from the same boat and maybe it would fit.

And Bill...........I'm glad somebody here on CCF  took a chance and bought it Wink

It seemed like an appropriate wait

Now I am second guessing myself for not waiting for Steve to respond.  I may have gone out of order. If that is the case I will offer it up whether it fits my application or not.  I don’t want to be “that guy”. Steve just let me know if you still need it and it’s yours.

I will offer it up again if it doesn’t fit my application.

I think his name was Bill.  🤷🏻‍♂️ the 24 hour courtesy rule expired and I bought it.  Thanks Keno!  I hope it matches what I have. I lost the original and had to go to my parts box for a replacement and that one already had a tab broken off so hopefully the new one with two tabs should help with opening.

Is somebody named Steve still looking for a gas cap (and filler assembly) ?

If you are, click on the EBAY link below and you'll find something that'll maybe have somewhat of a chance of threading into your filler or you could swap the whole assembly.

I don’t think anyone can say with any degree of confidence that the cap they have will fit your fill. I’ve seen mismatched ones of the same exact style fail to fit properly- I don’t know if it’s production variation or what.

Your best bet is to buy a complete fill as advised above.

Just a cap. I’ll check those out but I hate buying stuff that doesn’t fit. I thought I would check here first to see if anyone had one they could part with. Thanks Ken.

Since you bought one a while ago from Nautique parts that didn't fit the hole in your deck, do you know the hole size?

Here's a link to an Attwood fill assembly from Great Lakes Skipper that fits a hole size of 1 3/4 inches with more rounded tabs

or.........here's a Sea-Dog from Go2Marine with the tabs shaped like the CC cap back then, but no hole size dimension

Do you need just the cap or the whole assembly?

I could use an original deck fill gas cap. PO used one that doesn’t fit well. To fit a 76’ Martinique. It is the cap that has the raised tabs. I believe it to be an Attwood original deck fill. Thanks!
