imagine the twist on that thing, I dont know if cc are switching to these style drives on the newest boats, I did see one with a new design v-drive that never needs service it was PCM (Zf Hurth) all gears no u joints, runs synthetic gear lube. Its nice with the 630a trans on MC's very light weight, can spin either direction, very quiet, very durable....until you break one then it turns into very costly. the clutches alone are close to 800 beans when you replace and the pump you must buy as an a$$embly for right around $1000.00

Well they were good. It seams PCM got the optimal ratio but had to make their own transmission. 1.5 was what was available then.

14x18 prop, me thinks. Lots of area. The hull had a divit for extra prop clearance. Hense the 'slot'

Slower tip speed reduces parasytic losses.

Top speed typically dropped 1-2 mph, I think less due to design, more from the typical SBF running out of lungs above 4600 rpm.

observed a PS 425HP 454 model, I hear it was a hoot.

Another reason the 'slots are coveted is apparently because a larger diameter prop affects the tunnel and hook on the back of the older MC hulls. At least that's what they say. On some of the older hulls (namely the pre-91 hulls) apparently the wake on the slots vs. the 1:1's is different. Those old 'slot boats would turn a big wheel.

Sorry for butting in TR,
from memory and some actual facts... Mastercraft used the 10-17-000-006 1.52:1 in some of the 1980's calling it the powerslot, again great trans...bulletproof, nowadays thier using a couple different transmissions,
ZF hurth hsw450d and the hsw 630a and v. the 450 is a reverse engineered Borg Warner, I recently replaced one with a Borg Warner in OSU's ski teams boat because the pump was 8 weeks out of Italy which really means 12 weeks and $500.00. then there is the HSW 630a and v... you can spin these transmissions either direction for forward, full power forward, full power reverse now eliminating opposite rotation engines.   great trans until you need it fixed, very pricey to repair. the first one i did a few years ago was from a guy who took it to a rebuilder up in Michigan.. He was quoted $5200.00. long story short, he pulled the boat down here and I told him to be back Friday to pick it up. he did, his bill $1600.00   you see the difference in parts replacing and rebuilding. The parts on these ZF Hurth are very pricey and those mastercraft guy's love them until they need them fixed

The powerslot is MC's reduction drive transmission. Up until a few years ago, it was 1.5:1. In the last few years, MC has introduced a 1.26:1 in addition to the 1.5, which is dedicated to their 350hp MCX motor, I believe.

The reduction drive allows the boat to turn a bigger pitch prop at a lower RPM. The holeshot is greatly improved over the standard 1:1 tranny. The PCM 1.23:1 PowerPlus uses the same principle.

I wanted to ask this question on here instead of on an MC website because if feel like they would be more biased about it.

What is so amazing about the Powerslot transmission offered on the 80's 90's pro stars?

I feel like everyone who has one just rants and raves about how great they are without justifying their greatness.
