In any event, I would think the 542 would be overkill. If you havent done so yet, you should run the stock prop with that ballast. It will give you a baseline- Acme will be able to recommend a prop based on your stock numbers and intended use.

So the 1260 is what people are going to start running on the big blocks? I have an 86 nautique 2001 with the 454 engine and I am looking to replace the stock prop. I was going to put on an acme 540 but if the 1260 is supposed to be a better design for the big blocks I will get one instead of the 540 or 542.
I am going to be running about 1500lbs of ballast so thats why i am not sure which prop to get. |

I talked to Bill today at acme and he said the 1260 is what he would recommend for the BFN. So I have to call skidim now and get one on order.

I replaced a Federal 13x14 3 blade Nibral, with a 13x12 CNC Acme last year on a 1980 Century Resorter with a 255 hp Merc. Top end and rpms stayed the same. All other characteristics were greatly improved.

Acme #1260
13RHx14 .105 cup 3blade CNC I am replacing the 1985 Michigan Wheel 13x14 cupped on by 1985 2001 with the chev 454. The current prop was correct but after twenty years had finally been dinged enough to cause a faint vibration. I've a appreciated the propeller recommendations available on this forum and finally registered to say thanks to all. I considered the #470 and #654 that some people have run on the big block 1:1 transmission, but at the high altitude I'm at I thought it would be too much without decreasing the cup. The current acme recommendation of #480 just isn't enough pitch. Bill at ACME told me today of a new offering of the above prop. I know there might not be that many running 454's other than the Barefooter's but this is the answer to a long search for me. Can't wait till the ice clears from the lake! |
