just be sure and get a holley kit and not some other brand of kit to rebuild the carb. Also take it to someone that has a 5 gal bucket of carb cleaner so that the carb completely clean. Using spray carb cleaner never gets everything that needs to be cleaned.

I think I'll upgrade the distributor and have the carb rebuilt. I'm more for efficiency. This little boat has plenty of power for my uses.

IF the carb is proper, its typically jetted spot-on, there is not much to gain unless you dink with the top end.

79 and Munday, thanks so much for your comments. I'll start searching for a replacement distributor. I had previously converted the OEM unit last year from points, but would agree that a new unit would be a good choice.

I've rebuilt and re-jetted a few carbs in my day...but that was a loooong time ago. If I send it out for that work any recommendations? I believe the carb is a Holley 4160.

thanks

forget the intake and carb unless you are going to install a new cam, waiste of money, you're only going to burn more gas and not get any more performance.

The only thing I would suggest is upgrading to electonic igntion, either replace the points with a conversion or better yet upgrade to a new electronic dist. That will improve gas consumption and improve starting and idle. The intake will help slitghtly and i would rebuild the carb before i ever would replace it. The intake will produce a slight improvement not really worth the cost unless you are going to change the valve train then you should replace the intake.

If you do the manifold your not to far from cam shaft,at least I'd be looking that way.

Well, I plan on taking the boat in for a good once-over and to troubleshoot the loss of power issue that we've already discussed, and it's got me thinking...

Are there some reasonable engine upgrades that might make some sense?

In particular, I was thinking of a carb/manifold and distributor.

I'm not really interested in pulling the motor or even the heads, just some minor updates to increase performance and reliability.

thanks
