Hasbeen, I am going the same route. I hate carpet, just holds moisture and gets dirty. Instead I will be using Grizzly Grip Truck Bed liner. It comes in various colors. I am going with the same gray as the carpet. Other changes will include replacing the rope on the rub rail and building fiberglass or polyurethane tanks to go under the seats for ballast.

Thanks Leo, The stringers and engine are the important parts. Cosmetics are hard to maintain when the boat is being used. It is my position that a pristine boat just causes stress. Relax and have fun. For the record the hull is gel coat and the deck is Awlgrip paint with a non skid surface. There will be no carpet.

I wish I could repaint the boat like you did. For now I can only afford new stringers and an engine rebuild.

Thanks for the compliments and the critique guys it really means alot to me.
(1) JBear thanks brother, we will have to get together this summer I will need to meet my Floridian brothers when this thing is done. (2)Bob's 2001 The bilge is gel coated with whisper gray. (3)8122pBrainard. Gosh man, Hours? I haven't got a clue I have been working on it for a little over two years with every spare minute. If it were a business I would call it Chapter 13. (4) 81 Alan, the best part to me is going to be putting on the Bulls Blood Red graphics. The icing on the cake. (5)jdreiser the Airguides are later models than the ones on an 81 the are in black plastic bezels and are flush mounts. Skicat is correct the pop up from time to time. I heard Correct Craft found a bunch of them when they moved to the new plant. Try calling S.E. Correct Craft in Orlando, Woody would know. (6) Thanks 87BFN (7) Madd (Man) Marxx.... Bulls Blood Red graphics on the Ivory Taffy hull. My Favorite of all time |

Great looking job Hasbeen. Looks like you are going to have a new boat when you are done!
jdreiser- those speedos look like the ones that American Skier put in their boats around 86 or so. Mine has some just like those. Ebay has different kinds of Airguides on there. Keep watching, one can find something that will work. I have a stock of them just cause they don't make them anymore. White, chrome, black, etc, etc. |

The Romex or "house" wiring to the blowers is not exactly marine grade. The main problem with solid copper wiring is that the copper can break internally due to vibration and harshness. Copper strand wiring resists vibration much better. Also, I am not sure wether or not the insulation or sheating on Romex is fuel or oil resistant. Other than that, no safety issue that I am aware of.
Forgot to mention the boat looks awesome, great job. |

Where did you get the speedos? What about the ring surround the speedos - did they come with that particular set of airguides or did you combine parts from an earlier model of airguides? I have an 81 and the previous owner did not take care of the speedos and I would like to do something different.

Hey BJ, awesome work. I love the TURBO blowers, they look cool. Lot of creative ideas in that restoration, can't wait to see it completed.

Excellent work! What did you paint the bilge with? I'm in process of a stringer & floor job, too and would like for it to look as good as possible with my resources.

BJ: Great looking job! The bilge is awesome. Love the idea of composite stringers. Some of you guys doing all this work on these old boats really impresses me.

Thanks for the kind thoughts BJ. But this thread isn't for me. That boat is looking great.
I too met Dave a couple months back in Chicago. Yes, he is a good guy. BKH |

Ah! another voice of reason, Hello to you BK. Yes, composite, I could not be happier with the outcome so far. It is just a snails pace and there have been set backs. The entire boat shines like a new dime. I will do the graphics last. Still to do, teak platform, rub rail, and replica #3 Correct Craft trailer.etc.
I would like you to know I appreciate your voice of reason on this site. I had the pleasure of meeting Dave, "Cop Craft" a few weeks ago. A nice guy that is starting a Mustang restoration. I have added him to my prayer list! bj |

Looking good to me BJ. Got a great shine on that transom. As Chuck asked - are those the composite stringers you made? BKH

Hey JB,
Very nice looking. Are those your composite stringers or wood? We'll be anxious to see continued updates. Chuck |

A couple of notations;
(1)The photo of the bilge pump bracket is made from starboard. No screws in the bottom. The bracket holds the pump firmly in place. (2) The dual blowers mounted on a bracket under the fuel tank. An after thought that pleased me. (3) I have Pleasure Craft decals for the valve covers and exhaust manifolds still to add among other things still to do. Any thoughts? |
