Take a look at this thread. 351 rebuild. This is a total rebuild, parts and machine work excluding the heads, intake and new carb came to $2200. If you want to get to 285hp i think the easiest way will be to bolt on a set of gt40p heads. There have been a few gt40p upgrades lately and everyone seems to be very impressed.

Recently discover 2 gallons of water in oil pan; it may have been in the oil pan for 4 to 5 months. Motors has not been taken out of the boat yet. But, I am sure there is rust and water damage to the motor. The dipstick has rust on it. I am in the process of pricing out possible repair options. The boat is an 89Nautique with the 1.23 trans and stock prop. I would like to increase hp between 285 & 310 with a carburetor
1. Buy a rebuilt short block and from what vender? 2. Buy a rebuilt long block and from what vender? 3. Rebuild motor and upgrade heads and camshaft. Options 3 would include new pistons, bearings, rings, timing chain, oil pump, cam, lifters, rod bolts, and intake manifolds Options 1 would include timing chain, oil pump, cam, lifters and intake manifolds I am looking for advice on the most economically way to repair the engine and increase the HP between 285 & 310. I am new to the form some of this data my all ready provided in another thread if so please inform what threads to look at. Thanks |
