I am an "original type" myself. Aslo, make sure the back part is well secured, mine is somewhere b/n the lake and the house! I must have forgotten to snap the bottom and wind got under it.

EM, I'm just upholding my "Mr. original" image!! I do know what you mean about stepping on 7" of foam. We don't keep the rear seat in our Tique when we ski. In fact, it hasn't been in the boat all summer but of coarse we did get it to ski. The rear seat frame if you must is a good idea as long as it isn't screwed down!! |

So, I guess a fat sac with a towel over it would be out of the question??

I think the rear seat may have been optional. When I bought my 82 from the original owner, he said he didnt get the rear seat. I had one made. I made a frame out plywood, covered in vinyl. Only about 6-8 inches high. I find the thick foam hard to step in/out of when skiing, plus it really stresses the viyl. I guess that is why they did away with it and went with a middle removeable seat. Why not custom make two bottoms out of foam that snap in place with a walk thru? Best of both worlds. Just a thought.

DB, I measured the thickness of the seat bottom and it is 7" and the width is 16". Your Nautique is about 6" wider than my Tique so you will need to get the other dimensions off your boat. Since the rear seat is nothing but upholstery, yes you would be better off having it made.

yeah I have the fiberglass panel. Do you think it would be easier to just have one made? what are the dimensions?

DB, The rear seats have no frames. They are upholstered foam. The back snaps to the deck and the bottom (about 10" foam) snaps to the floor. There is a fiberglass panel (cover) at the rear covering the gas tank. Do you have that?
