JD, The only way he's going to find "a different set of threads" is on another boat! There is only a single thread on the shaft.

Crazy, Why do you feel you need to tighten the nut a full turn? The nut is only to snug up the taper. The nut does not really hold the prop on. The taper does and this is why a puller is required to remove the prop. A good example of a tapered means of holding 2 pieces together is a drill bit chuck. The chuck on a electic drill or drill press is held on with the taper ONLY!

The '90 most likely has the down angle 1.23 trans as well. Assuming thats the case, the 90 can use any prop the '00 196 can, as both use 1" shafts- only the V-drives use the 1-1/8".

I don't feel that letting the thrust of the prop tighten itself is a sound method of prop installation. The prop should fit the taper and the nut will snug it up.

Is the key sliding forward and not letting the prop on all the way? Maybe the key is slightly larger then the keyway on the new prop and it needs to be sanded down slightly. Will the prop go all the way on without the key in?
