I pump it out with a vacuum type pump, on larger boats i remove the cooler line and fire the engine and let the trans pump it out. i would get 3 qaurts and start with one and a half and go from there. when you know its to the right level, the next morning you can make a cold level mark so each time you fire the boat you can check the level when cold

Eric what is the best way to change the tranny fluid and how much do I use. I have a 83/2001sn with a 351 Lh rotation don't think the color matters. think its time to give her fresh fluids

I screwed up it is dexron mercon that I put in my tranny.So Eric what tranny fluid was in the on that you took apart that turned purple on you?Just curious

I pulled one apart yesterday and it had a purplish fluid in it, all the o-rings were twice the size from swelling

Gary,I just use dexron in my 78 mustang and it seems to perform well,so should be ok.I'm hoping that Eric will concur.

Hi Eric- Just getting my boat ready for Green Lake.Sorry to have missed you on the phone,just want to conferm fluid change.Dextron 3 and flush cooler hose's? As far as I know original Borg Warner,working fine,changed fluid regularly since I bought in '89.I haven't used boat in 3 years can't remember what oil I used then. Thanks Gary
