So what do you do to check that? If it is that important, what are the steps to ensure it is correct? Thanks.

Dexron Mercon, no full synthetics or additives. the water drip thing is something someone else can answer...i think its 2 drips per minute, but more importantly your alignment, alignment is right up there with changing your oil once a season. In my eyes alignment is in the top 3 things on a boat that should be checked.
alignment doesnt create $10.00 damage, it creates $1000.00 damage and if correct your boat will perform to its fullest |

Mr. Lavine,
I see that you are a tranny specialist, so tell me, what type of fluid do I use in this '80 nautique? (I think it is a BW Velvet Drive). Also, the guy I bought it from was telling me to check the drive shaft periodically for a certain amount of water drip per minute by examining the shaft section under the round plexi-cover behind the motor. What am I looking for here? Please advise. Thanks. |

my thoughts exactly, cheap way to update to a 2007,
they do have plenty of foam so what you removed wont hurt |

Makes sense, however the chunk I want to remove is about 7" wide and 12" long (a little smaller than a watermelon); I wouldn't think that would have a huge impact on sinkage. I want to utilize the space for a glove box. If my boat does start to sink I'll probably just head to the bar and let her go down.

I did speak with a guy yesterday who owns a Mastercrap and left the cooler hose off and about a mile and a half out he said his temp was pegged and the boat was barely moving anymore.
He smoked the engine real good and took on water up to the manifolds, luckily because of the foam he didnt go to the bottem. well now he wishes it wouldve went to the bottem |

remove the foam, go to the middle of the lake and remove your plug, make sure you have a life vest on because you wont have anything to hold onto when the boat heads towards the bottem because it no longer floats
JK it is for flotation |

Hello all. I have a 1980 Nautique and my question is regarding the spray foam/insulation under the dash. The previous owner of this boat cut part of the foam out to mount a radio and I am wondering if I can remove the rest without consequence. I don't see the need for it, but I would hate to cut it out and regret it later. Does anyone know the reason its under there? Thanks. John.
