I grew up in Palo Alto and live in Napa now. We had a couple from Redwood City in our group as well......... small world.
You should post some pictures of your boat. |

I am in Redwood City, just south of San Fancisco.
We were camping not on the main lake, but on the really big offshoot right across from the resorts launch ramp. It was about a 3 minute ride from the gas dock to our site. If you stood on the launch ramp and looked directly across the main lake towards that offshoot we were over there. We looked around for quite a while for a good tree to setup the rope swing on, but nothing really hangs out over the water enough to actually get you out there. We did swing on the new one, and if you let at the a second before the apex, it would throw you out and that worked well. If you wussed out and swung gently, you were landing in the soft muck. sluuuurrrpppp! My boat has a white and blue bimini and is dark blue. I also have graphics from an 01 on it. Where are you from? |

lukeduke95,
Yes, I was up there the same time, but I don't remember seeing an 88 out on the lake. What part where you camping at ? We saw bald eagles, turtles, bear footprints and caught lots of lizards for the kids. We love it up there. The old rope swing is gone, so someone rigged up another one that isn't quite as high and the water isn't as deep, but it worked o.k.. Where are you located ? My previuos boat was an 88 2001. awesome boat !!! |

Todiscus,
Just saw this post. I was up there the 13-17 staying a a boat in site with about 100 other people. They counted 150 Saturday night when the week before group and our week after group are all there at the same time. About Gas, the Resort actually just switched gas comapnies and they are fine with it. THe old gas company delivery guy was throwing a fit about it all of a sudden when it has been like that for years. They were selling gas on Friday, but not Wednesday I think. The lake is beautiful! Did you see any of the turtles swimming? How was the rope swing? When we showed up, the original tree it had been on for years had broken about halfway up and was laying in the water. I think some "aliens" put it on that other tree as you could use the one leaning against it to walk up and tie it on. My friends family who I have been going with the last two years have been there the smae weeks for the last 35+ years. You may have seen me, I think I saw your boat anchored right near the gas dock. I had the '88 2001 with the newer graphics and loud stereo. |

Pete,
My aunt (not really, just close family friend) still owns the property, 40 some acres. She put up a manufactured house about 10 years ago after her husband died. She's in her mid 80's. The cabins were in pretty bad shape the last time I had a chance to stop and see her while on quick trip. I think her actual nephews will eventually get the place. There was a great little tavern/restaurant, that we used to go to across the lake. 15 cent beers in 7 oz. glasses. The fishing was great and the skiing was perfect. I took my girlfriend (married for 30 years now) up for a week when we were 18. Those were the days! Looks like you really got me going down memory lane.... |

Walt, That area is about 40 miles east of me. Beautiful Spot. Anderson lake is very fitting since most of the area is Scandinavian. I bought my first snowmobile in Mountain. The 1970 TNT Ski-doo was in short supply and that was the closest dealer who had one. You should try to get back up there. I'm sure it would bring back good memories.

Todd,
Looks like heaven to me. Used to spend a few weeks each summer in the northwoods of WI, on a beautiful lake in an old log cabin. Very primitive, private, and some of the best memories of my life. Enjoy!! |

Yes, it is a Mastercraft Tristar 190 open bow. It has some minor issues, but overall has been a great boat for him and his family. He knows he needs a Nautique, just cannot throw down the money for a sport nautique right now.

Seriously looking into it for next summer Todd. Although we live on the water, it's nice to get away from everything. In CA, it's tough to find a lake that's 1) not crowded 2) has lakefront camping 3) has a shower. We've been been taking some day trips checking out where we want to go. The only place we've found is Eagle Lake, but Pillsbury definitely looks like a winner. BKH

Thanks for the nice compliments dudes.
Brian, I would highly recommend it........ we go every year and always conclude it's the best spot for skiing and kids.I actually learned how to ski at age 7 here. No TV, no cel phone reception, no microwave and no stress. The cabins do have a frig, stove and toilet. There are 50 cent showers located about 100 yards from the cabin. Fully stocked camp store with ice, food, beers and gas. And you can get a "I survived the road to Pillsbury" t-shirt too. |

Todd,
I've never made it up to Pillsbury. Always heard good things. After seeing your pics, I think I'll add it to the list of trips to take. BKH |

At $5.65 a gallon i would cry, I went through $200.00 this weekend at $3.35 per gallon. i think im remembering why i went on a hiatus from boats for a while
spending time with those kids is the important thing and if it was $20.00 per gallon it would be worth the memories your kids will have 20 years from now |

Eric, what my sister doesn't know won't hurt her Payback for when she use to tell on me all the time when we were young.
Thanks Travis, things are pretty good right now (knock on wood) for my family, And I am very proud of my two boys. They are really well behaved kids. The resort actually has a gas pump at their small marina, at $5.65 a gallon for regular. The gas bill was over $600.00 for the week. However, the EPA is going to shut down their gas pump because it is not up to code. I wish I took a picture, it looks pretty old and definitely not legal.........main gas line to the dock is laying on the shore exposed and enters the water before it gets to the pump. So we will have to use 5 gallon cans next year to shuttle gas to the boat. Thanks Larry, it is definitely a great way to start the summer family fun. |

Just got back from a week long vacation at Lake Pillsbury in the Mendocino Nation Forest, Northern California. We all had a blast; perfect weather and and lots of great smooth water for skiing morning, noon and evening !!
Aerial view of the little lake in the wildersness The road to the lake, which can be quite rough and narrow at times Deluxe accomodations at Lake Pillsbury resort, built in the 1940's MY 95 SN and my Cousins 89 Mastercraft My son Tyler progressing nicely Myself on an evening ski run The beach action we have been coming to this lake for over 30 years, and is probably one of the best lakes to ski at, because it's so remote ....... only 3 boats on the lake all week. |
