IMHO: Although it is comendable that you want to keep your boat original, there is a lot to be said for safety...especially when dealing with fuel spills in an inboard boat. I would suggest you go ahead and upgrade to a pump that is vented to the spark arrestor. The vent tube is clear so you can see when the diaghram (sp?) has ruptured. You will also know it due to a rough and rich idle. Better safe than sorry or original. Just my $.02.

My '72 has a small glass bowl that traps the vent and is contained. My 2 cents, the idea of the line running to the carb could be dangerous.

Restoring my 69 Barracuda...I've had it since 1970. The original fuel pump finally gave out and gas started spitting from the vent. On the older models the vent did not have a tube running to the carb or flame arrestor.

I notice most all the replacement units are now a kit....new pump, new flame arrestor with a vent tube hole and tubing for the vent to the flame arrestor.

I'd like to keep this original and found a carb kit...diaphram, gaskets, etc. for the original pump.

I'm sure the newer version is safer, but just curious if anyone has insight into this, or has been through the same issue?
