I used Bilgecote enamel over epoxy. Just had to be sure to wash with clean water and a scratch pad before applying the enamel. I also used a primer. It can be brushed on with a nice result. This brand or type of bilge paint is resistant to fuel, oil, and other bad things that tend to end up in the bilge. Makes keeping things clean a little easier.

Jon4, Tim is correct that the epoxy resin will turn whitish in time when exposed to UV. I wouldn't use a gel coat as I think it's a little overkill plus polyester will not stick to epoxy without a polyvinyl conversion primer. Tinted epoxy would be my first choice but people have had good luck with bilge paint too.

You dont need to paint them unless youre not covering them up with the floor
Epoxy resin is susceptible to UV light, but thats not a concern for the glass on the stringers that are buried. Not a bad idea to coat the bilge though- gelcoat or bilge paint should do the trick. |
