Carb's have been troublesome for me lately since both my engines are re-built with higher performance Cams so I learned a lot more than I wanted to if you know what I mean. New Carbs, not old.

The Dealer's typically can't deal with old Technology. This board certainly can. SS201 walked me through an Edelbrock that was giving me troubles and Holley's are easy as well.

Make sure you're engine is tuned, timed and a fresh tank of quality gas is run through her and then tell us what happens.

I had one boat, same symptoms as yours with the exhaust hoses old and collapsing. I had troubleshot everything and was actually pulling the engine when I saw the hose problem causing too much restriction. My point is to make sure it's the Carb before you start adjusting. Ballast resistor, Fuel pump, Filter, inlet tank screen can all cause this problem.

A simple check is Idle speed. Set it at 800 RPM. Then adjust the idle mixtures for max RPM. This is the main circuit for idle fuel. I bought a vacuum gauge to assist, but the result was the same with the Tach in the boat.

Try that and then let us know how she runs. Tell us the Carb type since some of these guy's are Holley Guru's and will need more info in order to help out.

Stick with it, the Carb will work fine.

My Nautique 92 has difficulty in keeping a steady idle after idling more than a minute or so. I restart the engine and "rinse" the throttle and then it will stay steady. This is something I can live with as I'm getting used to "rinsing" the throttle, but must admit is a irritating situation. When I approach at idle this is a nusense. I have spoken to my dealer and he says this is normal for CARBURATED engines. Tune-up is up to date (new plugs etc..).

Any ideas? Just a question can this engine be converted to fuel injection?
