we have a 1982 2001 that needs a new carburetor. i spoke with this guy, woody, at southeast correct craft (if you ever need ANYTHING, this guy is awesome. he knows everything about everything on a ski nautique!) who told me to only put on a holley, so i'm doing my research! ss201 says that the 4010 is the best to buy. why? and should i get it new or rebuilt. woody told me that it currently has a holley and he said to get a holley, so we're getting a holley!
thanks for the help! |

I am known as a full blown cheapskate but still, I would only use a marine carb. I have a paranoid fear of my boat looking like a Roman Candle on the Forth of July - but that's just me.

Yeah someone else told me there exist other differences but I havent had any problems as yet. I do, however open the engine compartment when starting as I have a manual choke. I bought a carb with a manual choke for a number of reasons not the least of which being for safety reasons (opening hatch to start and remove possible gas vapors) and the cold heartedness of some engines allows me to take the choke off when I want to.

SkiDim sells the "J" tubes you need to convert an automotive carb to marine (part number 0436). I think there are a couple other differences also - Vince at SkiDim could tell you.

If the repairs dont work try summitracing.com. They are here in Summit, OH and have very good prices on rebuilt and new holly carbs. I just picked a new one up on sale for $200 (4160). It is not marine but I wont tell the coast guard if you dont.

Not much to do, turn the top up place a 7/16 drill under the floats to set the height. Carefully bend the float. Assuming the floats are of plastic. Blow all the jet passages out. assemble the top, take out the external power valve, check to see ok, reassemble. turn in air screw in all the way gently not to damage needle on seat back out 1 1/2 turns. This a starting point
Now I have found most all the 4010 carbs I have worked on, they have put the floats in backward, which causes many problems. |

I just got what I think is a very good deal on a 4160 marine version from ACFI on Ebay. They didn't have the exact carb I wanted listed on Ebay but when I told them what I was looking for they posted on Ebay for me with a "buy it now" option. They delivered fast too.

How would you like to come to Augusta Georgia and help me get the 4010 carburetor set up properly? I lost many skiing days because the boat stalled or wouldn't start. |

That 4010 carburator is one of the best they made, out preforms most others. It has annular discharges plus numerous other features.

Try Carolina Carburetor located in Wilmington N.C. I traded in my worn out Holley and got a rebuilt one with warranty for $174. These guys specialize in carburetors, it's all they do.

I have a Holley 4010 carburetor on my 1992 Ski Nautique PCM 351 Pro Boss engine. I am looking for a 4160 carburetor that is a 1992 or newer.
