I think most former cheerleaders probably wouldn't. Seen a few myself as I too haven't ventured too far from where I grew up. BOY! have alot of folks gotten bigger since High school. All that changed for me was blonde to platnium and less of it. So I gotta ask you guys....Is that the norm?

The Al Capone angle was explained to me after I was able to talk about it(attorney friend I met there), and I see the history of the law ...but come on?!!? IMHO paying taxes implies ownership and creats a classic oxymoron here?!!? LOL Guess I'm a little naive and possibly a bit idealistic? As for my former cheerleader...sadly, I doubt she'd make the squad today. |

My method has worked.
Forget the first time. Then they send you a second. Then I tell them I will be out of town. Then a while passes and they sent me a third. I just didn't go. Then a longer period elapses, and I get another. I prove that my residence has changed (to a different county), and viola, no jury duty in downtown Chicago for me. It'll catch up with me eventually. |

That's how they got Al Capone. I guess it's income whether it's stolen or not. Any pics of the cheerleader? |

It's all finished then. I sat for my 3rd jury selection of the week, and those not chosen for this last jury were dismissed for the term. We started with 180 people monday, and this last case was 6 selected from 14.
All in all...very interesting but not a round-wheeled machine. I did meet a good number of people I wouldn't mind seeing again. I even bumped into a cheerleader from high school. Speaking of high school, the last case was between 2 neighbors who got in a fist fight?!!? I really don't see the expense of a trial for a 'disagreement'...and clearly a maturely handled affair! LOL Another I still don't understand is a tax evasion charge (1 of 5) on stolen money. Just how can tax be due on stolen money?!!? Thanks for the responses...I enjoyed my book. ...and God help this country! |

Work hard, people on welfare are counting on you. I guess those 15 were just too dumb acting. You could pretend to know one of the lawers, you could be pro death penalty etc.

You mean so you could pay your taxes? Don't get me started... How can 15 of 18 not have a job? And they're qualified to be on a jury? They must know something I don't?!!? LOL Sounds like todicus' jury. |

I've been called for duty 4 times in the last 12 years or so. I know people that have never been. I remember the last time, my sister's father in-law sat beside me, he's retired, and it was his first time. We sat there and they went through 18 people, only 3 of them had a job. I thought they should let me go back to work because 15 of them were counting on me.

I've been once for a week but never got on the jury. It was a learning experience first hand to see the justice system in action. You may not even get picked. I was dismissed from one case because it was a car accident and the plantiff was suing State Farm. I got dismissed from that one as I was a policy holder........... The second was a PO'd hunter who didn't win a 4-wheeler for shooting the biggest buck opening weekend. He was suing the owner of the deer cooler for it. ( seemed to me he cheated) I saw several folks get dismissed cause they either had deer proceesed there or knew the defendant. One lady was dismissed cause prosecution asked her in the QA session if she believed in hunting and her response was that she opposed to it and thought it was wrong and cruel. That got her yanked of the jury faster than the blink of an eye. So you never know.....

Thanks for the responses. I know some cops and have a 1 employee business. I guess we'll see monday. There is a piece of me that feels I should do my civic duty, but it seems to have become a circus these days. We have a guy here(Brian Nichols I think)) that walked into court and shot a couple of people in front of God and everyone...yet we can't prosecute him for lack of defense money?!!? WTF?
Jury nullification sounds like the jury overturning the judge and like another I heard about. Apparently, georgia law permits the jury to deliberate on the sentencing, and apparently judges don't like that. I bet the root of both of these is that judges don't like to be corrected...or questioned...or even disagreed with. BKHall...comments? Thanks again guys |

A law enforcement officer in the family will usually work.Being a business owner with none or only 1 employee usually works ,too.
I had to go to federal jury selection last year, but the case I was picked for was resolved the night before I had to go . I would tell them you're perfect for jury duty because you have a knack for that sort of thing and can tell if a person is guilty or not as soon as they walk through the door . I think some of it would be very interesting if it was more convenient in our lives to go,but for 20 bucks a day,who can afford it? Mike |

BFN,
There is something about Jury nullification in the constitution or as a law, I have heard if you understand and explain this it may frazzle the Judges and/or Lawyers and most likely get you dismissed, has something to do with a Juries right to ignore the law. Have also heard the cop friend/family thing as well. Good Luck. |

Just be honest and tell them you spend the majority of your free time and often work hours conversing with both young and older men on the internet, and often traveling great distances to meet them knowing they may be scantily clad.

When they ask you if knowing a police officer as a friend, would it cause you to have any bias in the case........... just say, " I don't think so, but I know that my friend the policeman is an honest guy, and or police in general have no reason to lie, so I would have to tend to beleive in what they say."
If you admit you would have a bias, they think your trying to skip out on jury duty, and may keep you. Play the slow hand and let them figure out your bias on their own. |

How come it doesn't sound like a good idea to walk into a court of law and announce that I'm some kind of molester?!!? LOL
So far I'm with todicus 'cause I do know several of my county's and city's finest. Is knowing enough? I'm not affiliated other than being friends. And you're right about not wanting to deal with what you described...from those questions, they might as well have asked how trees grow. |

Seriously, I witnessed 10 potential jurers get dismissed because of an affiliation with the police. No other excuse worked, and there were plenty.

BFN when you get questioned for selection and you are asked if you are for capital punishment tell them yes, fry em... and you will be dismissed if it is for a murder trial.
Thats just what I was told. I have never been. |
