Looks like the price went up within the last year. I know when I looked last april, the Prestolite conversion was only $100.
This post is from October 2004. |

I ordered everything from SKIDIM.
Conversion Kit was $99.00. (I also went thru everything else while I was doing it Cap, Rotor, Wires, Plugs. But you didn't have to do that.) Was pretty easy to do. Old plate with points/condenser comes out of distributor & The new kit replaces it. Only other thing was that you had to by-pass the external resistor. Snipped wire each side & connected them. I also bought a new electronic coil to go with it ($33.00, again wasn't required SKIDIM said it would work with the old one) Last summer I had trouble starting & it was running rough - Now starts on first turn of key & purrrs like a kitten! So far, I'd highly recommend it! I'd also highly recommend SKIDIM. They were very helpful! |

It's worth every penny. I converted my '66 mustang about 7 years ago. You get quicker starts and improved throttle response. I had my friend who owns a NAPA store order it for me out of one of his books, about $90. You'll need the model and number of the distributor and check to see if there is a vent hole on the side of the metal part just under the cap, sometimes that makes a difference on parts, I know it does for the cap.

Has anyone here converted to electronic ignition? I am looking to convert mine and wondered if anyone had any experiences with any particular brands.
I have been looking at the Pertronix conversion kit. http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/ford-.htm They also have a kit at skidim.com http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RP173072&variation=&aitem=7&mitem=35 Let me know of your experiences with any of these kits. |
