hi guys ,
have solved ring & finger problem by taking one that's meant for rear mounting & grinding off the two posts , and welding on a bolt from below if that helps anybody in a similar predicament . would any of you gentlemen in the us of a know where one could obtain a copy of a 1983 barefoot nautique user's manual ? fond regards from south africa robo wilson |

Steve, That's the ring and finger on my Atom. The item in the dash is the original Stewart Warner instrument cluster that CC was using in the 50's.

I made this one. Some soft tooling in the press break for the ring, a lathe for the shaft, some nice TIG welding and then buffing.
Robo, One problem you will run into is getting the old ring and finger shank out of the aluminum pylon. In most cases, the ring and finger has been cut off because it was the quick and easy way to add a extended pylon. Getting the original ring and finger out can be a PITA because it usually requires removal of the pylon from the boat and patience. The aluminum will white rust (corrode) locking in the shank. This requires soaking in a oil. The other problem is CC used roll pins to install them. This was a quick and easy method for the factory but difficult to remove later. Now that you are left with the shank in the pylon, setting it up in a mill and boring the old shank out is the way to go. |

MW = Mid-West
www.nautique.com I would think a ring and finger wouldn't be that hard to make. Toughest part would be to find someone to make the ring. The finger and stem could be welded on... Anyone have a picture of a ring and finger out of a pylon??? Or a sketch with dimensions?? |

seems everybody needs ring&fingers , but i guess they don't make them because there's no demand ! i'm thinking to tough out my BFN for our summer , but to take on another resto project after that . any ideas how to contact other south africans via your excellent site ? fond regards robo 1983 BFN |

If youre going to primarily slalom, there are certainly better boats out there than the BFN. Its deep-V hull puts out a tall, flat-tabled wake (which is great for barefooting).
I believe '84 would have been the last year for the chrome speedos. Teak trim was used through '89. Be aware that the '90+ Ski Nautiques have a much improved slalom wake. Good luck finding a ring and finger- theyre NLA. Lots of people here need them. If youre just trying to restore the pylon's functionality, MWCC sells a top piece that takes the place of the ring and finger. You could also replace the entire pylon. |

i traded my boat for a 1983 barefoot nautique , which i've been having restored (haven't put it in the water yet )
i'm told that's it'a beast to slalom behind as it kicks out a tabletop wake with steep sides - is this true ? do i have the wrong boat ? if so i'd need to trade it for an eightysomething ski nautique pref with chrome speed gauges & teak trim - what year would that be ? my ring & finger's been lopped off , where do you get a new one? robo wilson johannesburg south africa |
