Coop, Carefull, the above links from 91 are off the shelf standard lengths. I think you need a special odd length that is only available through Correct Craft.
Tim, I know you probably have the part number? |

The stock cable is indeed a Teleflex. Dont go with a cheapo aftermarket or generic cable- you wont like the results. Any Nautique dealer would be able to get the cable for you- so that would be my recommendation. I havent had much luck tracking down the exact part numbers that CC used, so I dont know their availability in the aftermarket.
If the price from an Australian dealer is outrageous, then check with a dealer over here like White Lake and see if they can be of any help. |

Coops If its a red (morse cable) the length should be printed in the cable every meter- or so. If its a black aftermarket cable it may not be on there, as Eric said someone will jump in and give you the original part no. Once you have the part no you can get the cable locally from http://www.bla.com.au/index.php?fn=SubSectionView&dId=1&id=573&eId=10&sId=18a1e109f462d7489e329218a7c4607f (if you click into one of the cables in the above link it will tell you how to measure the cable to order a new one) or http://www.whitworths.com.au/main_departments.asp?cat=126&Cat1Descr=Engine%2FSteering&Cat2=356&Cat2Descr=Single+Cable+Steering or http://www.biasboating.com.au/steering_mechanical.html Before you order a cable check the helm. |

Hi Everyone, I just found you guys. I was born and live in Australia but I was lucky enough to spend a few years over your neck of the woods about a decade ago. I did a fair bit of skiing while there and that is where I formed my Ski Nautique addiction. It has taken the best part of that decade to be able to afford one over here where they are rare and expensive. We've got some nice ski boats in Oz and that is why people don't spend the big buck on the rare imports and fair enough too i guess. But for me nothing else comes close. Anywho I don't want to bore you with rubbish. I got my hands on a 2004 ski 196 with the ZR6 motor in it. I love it and it has not missed a beat in 12 months even though it has 700 + hours on it. (Ex club boat over here so it has seen some action). Well just recently the steering has stiffened up quite a bit. I have read through some of the posts on this and done some of my own research. I have greased the rudder with no joy. Seems like a new cable makes sense and must be the answer. I have looked over the steering and cable. It is a teleflex back mount rack system, which I guess most nautiques are? My problem is I don't know exactly which one I need. Because they are rare noone over here knows or cares. One link I found says the exact model maybe stamped on the cable and will state the length but i can't find any numbers on mine. I can't find it in any owners manual or document I've seen. Several posts say odd sizes make life alot harder on install and results. I could pull it out I guess but that has 2 problems. One I am not sure exactly where you measure from and to: re the rack part of the cable and with it in the sleeve or out at the rudder end. And 2 it may take a while to get it and I'll be out of action for that time. I will do this if I have to but I am hope some will know exactly what cable I need for a 2004 196 ski so I can order it off one of the sites you suggest in some of your steering posts. Anyway thats it. I am just trying to get a hold of a new steering cable. I haven't read much of the other stuff on the sight seeing I just found you but looking forward to. Thanks Guys Coops |
