thats ok, i actually ordered two of them today from woody at mastercraft of orlando, formerly southeast correct craft!! $110 each but very nice to have a spare!! also, my detent plate/bezel is chrome and not plastic with another notch 180* from the top notch so i can flip mine around and reuse the old one (learned that from woody today). thanks for looking though, i really appreciate it!!!

Peter - The detent plate it is a molded plastic part (basically the bezel) - I tried to think of a way to repair it but could not come up with anything. It is not a very robust design / material selection.
Graegin - I tried to locate the shift handle & also did not get a hit. It was available last year, but nowhere to be found now. I bet they dsicontinued it as a service part due to the product liability involved, can't say as I blame them. |

Chris, What does this detent plate look like? Round, keyed somehow to the shift housing and with a groove for the lockout dog? Could it be made on the lathe and mill out of brass? Maybe a answer for someone with the means to do it. |

thanks, but i swear i could not find what i thought to be it. i need to look at mine tonight and make sure my bezel is not equally worn as yours is. dang that will suck to spend $300 on a new shifter!!

Graegin - If you search on the internet, you can find the lever for around $50., at least that is what it was last year. There are several online boat stores (no comment on which is favored) that carry this. On my boat, the plastic bezel that has the mating notch (for the lockout dog to detent into), is equally worn, & that is not available. So I have not fixed this problem, as just a new lever won't fix, so it will require an entire new shifter.

Well, it helped some but it appears that the plastic guide plate is too worn for the tab to lock in. Good thing I didn't waste $50 on a new lever. I'll check on the guide plate to see if it can be purchased separately. I know the entire shifter is pricey.

My shift lever's neutral lock was not functioning. I could push into gear without pulling up on the collar. I know that a replacement lever is available for about $50, but I took a shot at fixing this one first.
It appears that the problem is that the linkage has too much drag for the return spring to overcome. I added another return spring under the knob. I also 'sharpened' up the lock dog a little with a file. I'll let you know how it works out. |
