foot you hit the nail on the head for my feelings here...

Pete; So glad your daughter is safe...just cannot imagine what was going thru your head.

Dave; Must be real hard around the shop...what can you all possibly say to each other? This is one of those things that happen "to the other guy".

Again we are shown the status of our world and how chaotic it has become. Never dreamed that it would be this way for all of us; but in the midst of it all lies a small group of boat enthusiasts who have bonded together, from all walks of life and from all over the world who have a friendship and truly care for those whom most of us only know here in cyber world and have never met in person. There still is hope and good in this world and it's easily found here in CCFan.com.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved and am thankful that one of us wasn't affected directly. Scarey Stuff Pete!! Glad to know your daughter is safe. Must have been some serious "pucker factor" there for a while. Stuff like this hits too close to home.

Guess we all need to give our loved ones an extra hug and "I love you!" this weekend.

Anyone out there for gun control can kiss my backside...it's the ones who don't go through the legal channels who do 99.9% of the damage.

I have several guns and will use them!

Pete - I'm glad your daughter is safe. These things are senseless. I hope I never have to go through what you just did.

My prayers go out to the families of the slain.

We can relate to that kind of situation...
Take a look at following link:

Being an NIU alum, this certainly hits home harder than reading about the many other communities who have experienced this. I can't imagine how those who have family or friends going to NIU felt before finding out everyone was safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

It is very sad that our children are vulnerable to such attacks while in school. These cowards target those who cannot defend themselves. They have the guns. In our schools there is usually nobody to stop them.

Consider these two incidents:

A deputy in Texas would always leave his gun in the car when he went into church. He didn't want to offend anybody. One night a nut job picked his church to go on a shooting rampage. The deputy could only throw himself in the path of the gunfire. He survived three hits. His 12 year old daughter and four other young people were killed. He said that if he had been carrying his gun then he could have easily taken that guy out.

You know that recently some bozo shot several people at a missionary training center in Colorado Springs, CO. Then, still armed, and bent on killing, he drove to a nearby church. This time, before he could hurt anyone, an armed security officer took him out. She saved countless lives.

I have been privy to some briefings on the alarming threats that exist in our schools. The threat is real. When somebody is not there to rapidly eliminate the threat, the consequences are horrific. Unfortunately, our society will not accept its people arming themselves to counter this threat. So, sad as it may be, purchase the kevlar backpacks and talk to your kids about what to do if that guy comes to their school.

Pete- Glad to hear that your daughter is safe and sound at home.

Events like these make you hit the 'reset' button on your priorities, don't they?

To all the Midwest CCFans- Enjoy the long weekend with your families

My heart sinks when this type of thing happens. Selfish , sick or however it's discribed. I feel helpless and sick to my stomach. What great sorrow imposed on the innocent.

Well,
It's hit home,,,,,, One of the victims, Catalina Garcia, a gorgeous 20 year old mexican girl from Cicero worked in our packaging dept over the summer, along with her mother, aunts and uncles. She now will be grieved by all us here.

Ironically enough my secretary went to high school with the shooter and graduated with him from Elk Grove HS. Now she's freaking out this morning...

Say a prayer for the victims families.. They are going to need it...

Gang, incidents like these are almost always a result of abnormal psyche. The brain is a chemically-driven machine and when these chemicals are out of balance, terrible things can happen. People can think they are Jesus or that everyone is trying to kill them or that everything is one big video game, or they can go into a stoic, catatonic state for decades. You can't look at it as "how could somebody do that", thinking that everyone has a rational, sound mind. These people are untreated or mis-diagnosed people with major chemical issues in their brains in most cases where there is no apparent motive.

Beth is a highschool teacher and we've talked on several occasions about exit strategies, etc. and I agree with Rob that I'd feel better if she actually had a piece on her for defense! The problem is that I'd hate for her to be mistaken for the shooter- in crazy cases like this the cops have no idea who is who and how many shooters there are so the fewer people with firearms, the better. I saw an article about a personal kevlar shield that can fit in your student's backpack for protection in such an incident- how sad is that?

It's really a shame that you can't feel safe at school. I worry about my wife every day. She works as an assistant to the chairman in the business school at Notre Dame. You wouldn't think anything like that could happen to you, but as mentioned above, it can. It makes me think I should buy her a little pistol to keep in her desk. Sadly enough, after the Virginia Tech incident, we discussed an evacuation plan for her if there was a shooting in her building. What a pathetic person it takes to shoot random people because you're own life sucks.

Pete...glad to hear your daughters OK

Glad she's safe Pete. I have a daughter away at school, 2nd year, and can imagine how you felt during the 4 hours.

Imagine how numb the people that lost their kids are? It's so senseless.

All I can say is that parenting must have completely gone to the dogs over the last couple of decades..And this guy was an honor student!!! What the hell is going on in the minds of these kids??

I'm glad your daughter is safe and sound... Look up and thank the big guy upstars !!! Unreal to think that out of all the colleges in this country, this shyt is brewing everyday..

We certainly live in a world full of dangers most of which we don't have much control over. Thank God that here in the US it is safer than other parts of the world and we should be thankful for that. My daughter is in her second year at NIU. She is safe and came home last night. It was however about 4 hours of trying to find out if she was ok that was nerve racking. As reported, the cell towers were quickly overwelmed with the volume of calls. It took my son and the younger generations ability of instant messaging to contact her.
