It certainly is alot CHEAPER to teach someone how to drive than it is to purchase one of these systems.
It has taken some time, but I think I am finally getting the hang of it. I occassionally still get my husband going too fast and then let off too much too quickly(but just occassionally)
I may even be a better driver than him. Now if I could just convince him to put
"Nauti Girl" on the back of the boat!

The difference between the "PRO" version and the lower priced standard version is the installtion of the "through the hull" paddle wheel. The paddle is more sensitive to speed at slower boat speeds and thus works better for wake boarding or tricking. The RPM based version works well for slalom skiing at speeds of 28 mph or higher.

Hmmm, that report doesn't sound good. Are we talking about the same unit? My basic Pro Pass is ungradable to the deluxe slalom course version using the hull magnets at any time. My installation works great, having installed it myself.
The servo rigging is critical, because it must have the authority to pay out as well as retreive cable. it's also very important that you don't have a worn throttle cable that's binding the system up, or a big throttle return spring inhibiting the system. If I remember correctly (It's been about 4 years now) the installation instructions direct you to remove one of the two throttle return springs. Also important is the rotation of the servo knob prior to turning it on. Your suppose to rotate the knob to remove all cable slack at the start of each skiing day.
I also have mine wired on the accessory breaker, so once I fire up the boat it's on for the remainder of the day. Hope this helps. TJ

i fitted it to my 196 nautique and found it a waste of time i have now updated it to wakeboard pro i would say hold out till you can get the more exspensive one

I do.... I'm a trick and slalom skier. It works well.
If, however my girlfriend turns it on after the boat is in gear then it acts silly. It still engages and attemps to hold a speed, but it loses it's band width of authority. It has to do with how much cable is wrapped up on the little servo that is used to regulate rpm.
Otherwise, it's perfect for drivers with no "speed control". (I installed my own system, so I understand how it works, and how it's rigged so it can manipulate the throttle lever on my Holley carburator)

I have a basic Perfect Pass Cruise (RPM) in my 1987 Ski Nautique. It works awesome! It can be totally inaccurate if you don't follow the operating instruction exactly. It must be on and armed BEFORE the boat is put in gear or it becomes unreliable and not steady.
It's been the perfect addition to my boat, my girlfriend can give consistent pulls and about all she has to do is steer.
I also had conversations with the company tech rep, and he recommended feathering on some throttle to "Help" the system along, and then feather it off when you striaghten out. I only do that on tight turns. The system has enough authority to compensate for gradual turns. Hope this helps. TJ

No offrense taken. I should have clarified, because it works different for each application. My buddy has the wakeboard one (very expensive) and he has a lot of different drivers.He likes it and has had good luck with his unit,in my application with the last two boats ('98 and'99 Sport) it has been a dissapointment.

Well it was only my opinion based on my experience with the unit in my boat.For ME, with the driver I have, the cruise has not been worthwhile.

I disagree completely to the opinion of 502 Python. I had an 82 Nautique and installed PP Cruise in it. It was the best addition I ever made to the boat. I used to weight the boat with about 1600 lbs and it worked great. It held speed even through tight turns and was simple to operate. I liked the set up better then in my new SAN with PP Wake Board Pro. Driving and riding behind a boat with PP makes for a far more enjoyable experieince. I will never own a boat again with out Perfect Pass.

I have one that came in my boat and it does not work real well. It is ok at 16 mph and over in a straight line but if you turn around it does not work well to get the speed back to where it should be. I spent more time screwing with it and now have not used it in over 3 years. It is a pretty dash plaque now.IMHO, it is easier to teach a greenhorn to drive than it is to fiddle with the cruise control.Don't waste your money.I'm sure the more expensive ones are much better and more advanced than my '99 but I don't have any experience with them.

Has anyone used the Perfect Pass "Cruise" system? It's the cheapest one (based on RPM only). Does it work OK for wakeboarding? Don't need a "Competition" system, but I'm curious about using RPM only at low speeds.
