Turned out it was the MOB safety switch, bad. Replaced $30 and good to go.

THe switch will not let the boat turn over if it is activated. Could be your relays, or in my case a bad coil. I have the same motor and had some wierd missing, hessitation, no start issues a while back. After replacing just about every bolt on electronic part, it turned out to be a faulty ground strap and an old coil.

Good luck with your GT40......

Ski Nautique 95 GT-40, when I bought it a new throttle/shift assembly was installed, and the neutral/gear engage button, seemed to be wired backwards. It will only start in gear, instead of out as designed, and every once in awhile, usually during a slow "idle speed" the engine will just die, like I shut off the key. It would restart immedietly, and run great. Now, it is just turning over and not starting. The switch should disable the starter, correct? The fuel injecter system seems ok, I hear the pump activate. I was suspicious of the man overboard safety switch.
It going to an electronics mechanic, but I would like to diagnose and comprehend. THANKS!
