I've heard that construction sites are having problems with theft. They are even going in and pulling the copper wire out for the big bucks it's bringing. Now it's even the low end carbon steel they're after.
I got the call this morning at 1AM from our alarm monitoring station. They had a burg alarm so I sent in the police. When I got here, the place was swarming with police and they even had the dogs inside our building. They found 5 guys with 2 pickups in our scrap yard who had loaded up carbon steel out of our scrap hoppers. They had gotten greedy and forced open a door to go after the stainless scrap and aluminum which was inside and tripped the alarm. The police got 3 and the other 2 took off out the back. Wish we had the room to put the scrap inside but don't. There are 3, 30yd. roll offs back there. Keep a eye on everything in your yards!! |

It least it was scrap, we had guys break in and steal a few hundred suction line sub assemblys all ready for production, 2 and 3/8 copper a hundred plus pounds per assembly, losing the copper was bad enough but they were formed, brazed, and leak checked already. Not to mention the fact its not exactly stuff sitting on the shelf at the local supply store, quick way to put a production line 2 weeks behind in the middle of busy season.

we've had the same stuff happen at my dad's shop. We've got a huge scrap dumpster, 3 of the sides are like 7 ft tall & 1 is like 4 & slants down to load stuff in it... we've been missing scrap rotors, body panels, & actually a few whole engine blocks... & all of this about 50ft from the police station(directly across the street)... Man, if these guys who stole scrap put this much effort into making people burritos at taco bell, they probably wouldn't be so bad off...

There is a walking trail along Portland Harbor. Thieves stole over 1 mile of wiring that was underground for the lights. The paper said it must have taken them several days to remove it.
Last winter, our seasonal chapel had all of the copper plumbing removed. |

I know when I lived/worked in Detroit, it is so bad that they are stealing aluminum siding from any side of the house not facing the road. Mostly abandoned houses, and I am sure the copper is long gone!

Now you have to add night security to the price per square foot to keep people from pulling the pipe and wires out. And people are using battery powered saws-all to cut convertors out from under cars.

Over here we had a real wave of thefts of copper wires from the train powerlines. The train schedules have been messed up for weeks...

I was watching one of those cop shows one night and they were raiding a house where the owner was suspected of stealing power/cable lines. Can you imagine? These guys were climbing poles and stealing wire, then burning the insulation of in their back yard and selling the scrap copper.
Thieves suck, whether their stealing scrap, junk,or brand new boats. WTF?Get a real job! Mike |

Here is Raleigh NC, someone stole the phone lines off the poles. Did not remember how much, but it took them
days to replace. The news reporters said it would have taken them more than a day to pull it all down. They have asked the public to call if workers are not using identified service vehicles. |
