I will probably have to replace my floor & stringers in the very near future on my 79 st. I have read alot in the forum, but can someone tell me why you should not use treated lumber. It wood last very many years.

Tommy, Yes you are correct that the wood will last for many years but the boat may not. The chemicals used in treated wood cause a bond failure with both polyester and epoxy resin. Without the bond, all structural integrity is lost between the stringer system and the hull. If done with care and epoxy resin, new wood will last. "weeding the pumpkin patch" is a excellent thread incase you missed it. You could also go with a high end route like Joe (JoeinNY)is with the Coosa board. How bad are your stringers? Has it started to affect the alignment? You may want to consider posting tech questions in the "repair" or "maintenance" forums. (3 of your 4 tech questions have been in the "parts wanted") You may get better and more responses. |
