Can anyone recognize, from these pictures, what kind of distributor I have on my 76 chevy 305? Prestlite? Mallory? GM/Delco? I want to get a tune up kit, but don't know which one to get.

I think it is a Prestolite with a clap down cap. It doesn't have a cap that I can find anywhere else on the Internet.

Are there ANY markings on the distributor body anywhere?

Hi Larry

That's a Mallory marine distributor. The cap is a giveaway as to what it is. I remember Mercruiser and OMC using them. Matter of fact a friend had a 75 CC with a 305 OMC and that cap.

You can find that cap in numerous places. If you do a Google search for "Mallory marine distributor" you'll see the same cap. I'd send a link but I'm not that geeky. I did find it in numerous places doing the search though. Summit Racing lists the cap with a picture and they could probably help with all the parts.

Thanks Keno, I'll follow up. And I'll be checking my manifold bolts too. I don't own a torque wrench, but I can handle one grunt pretty easily, I think.

Hi Larry
I'm not sure I know what I'm doing but this should (maybe) get you to the Summit page that shows the cap. Maybe you can click on it or maybe cut and paste.

Hi Larry

I found some Sierra part numbers that might be of help to you for a Mallory side terminal dist used by a bunch of mfgr's.

Cap 18-5375
Rotor 18-5411 (looks like yours)
Complete kit for dist 18-5372

I also found out that Prestolite had a side terminal distributor with a cap that looks about the same but the rotor is different than the one in your picture on the other post. It was used bt Grey Marine and Chris Craft in the 60's and early 70's.

I got a lot of info from a Sierra catalog and also from a NAPA marine catalog I scrounged from the NAPA outfit a few years ago.

It could be a prestolite but I don't think so.

You must have a NAPA out there on the Cape that has marine parts. They should be able to help you out. The NAPA numbers are magically the same as the Sierra numbers.

KENO,

Appreciate you help on this one. I'm still muddling along with it. Hey, I just noticed from the tranny thread, that you are apparently up on the north shore someplace. You may or not be aware that there are a few of us in the area, Brad, Keith, Ken, Tim, myself. Where are you? where (and with what) do you boat? We get together occassionaly, always room for one more.

Hi Larry

I only know about the transmission place from taking long rides to get parts. I live in Vermont and do my skiing on the Connecticut River with a 76 Ski Nautique that I've had since 77, and an American Skier Volante project boat.
I should add some stuff to my profile.I'm an old (55) barefooter who still gets a lot of time in and can hang in there with the youngsters pretty good.

(*as documented in the "northeast amateurs" video Keith posted)

(thanks for the info)

(Vermont??...that's just across the border from Lake George)

Hi Larry

I saw the video last fall and read your profile so I knew you were an old? fart like me.

We should get an over 50 group together.

Depending on schedules, vacations etc. Lake George could happen for me.
