sometimes when i go to start the boat there is a small delay in starting. meaning that when i turn the key it takes a half second or so to start cranking the engine. it's like the turn of the key is not immediate.
what do you make of this? |

1. Check all of your connections to battery and starter. Look for corrosion, and bad connections. 2. Have your battery checked at Auto Zone / Advanced Auto. |

You could also be due for a new starter switch. I had that same issue a number of years ago. Checked all of the connections, battery, everything. New switch fixed it. Just make sure that you get a marine starter. A few bucks extra but I've heard horror stories about guys putting in regular auto switches and only lasting a few months.

I have had the same problem, off and on for several years. Are you talking about the keyed switch on the dash? Could there be a loose connection. The keyed switch on the dash has been known to rotate some when starting. I have a 93 Ski. Thanks

Starter relay could be going bad, and/or a low voltage situation at startup could delay actuation of the relay. I'd get a new relay anyway- it's a pretty cheap part and it's nice to have a spare on hand.

Yes, I was talking about starter switch on the dash. They do go bad. It could have a loose connection. Something to look at. The contacts inside of it are what can be bad or have a bit of corrosion on them that can cause the problem too. |

Thanks backfoot, I will check it out tomorrow. It doesn't happen all the time. Usually when everything is hot. The switch is cheap and so is starter relay. I will call Ski Dim and order one. Thanks for all the helpful information.
