I bought an 01 Ski Nautique over the winter and I am loving the sweet curved glass windshield. What I do not like is all of the water spots on both sides of the glass.
I first tried "Rain-X" which is a slight abrasive compound. This worked great when I readied my '95 for sale, but did not even "dent" the stubborn spots. Next I bought an "H2O Spot Remover" from West Marine that is an Oxalic Acid liquid. As I appiled it, I could see it "hazing" the glass. I was hopeful it was removing the spots. My clean rag was discoloring, I was stoked. As I cleaned the glass with windex, I saw that all of the spots were still there. I tried 3 applications, with the same result. Help!!! Any ideas? |

Vinegar and water will douche it every time.
I keep a little mix in a spray bottle, just be sure you wipe it all off thoroughly. |

I will give that a try. I am talking real tough spots here. I was surfing the net and swerved into a product called "Clear Glass Systems" 90.00 for the kit. I will try the vinegar douche first.

Ditto on the vinegar and water. It's worked every time for me and I'm in Arizona where the lakes are know for "hard" water.

I had a sample package of All Kleer from Black Lab Corp that I had picked up at the boat show. I applied it a couple weeks ago and I've got to say, this stuff is really nice. like Rain-Ex, but better. Windows wipe clean with a dry towel now!

Your right, It does say that it is for "all smooth plastic surfaces".... I guess I didn't see that at first. Anyway, I love what it did to my windshield. I didn't really have any bad water spots, but rather applied it just because it was sitting in the glove box and I figured it was like Rain-ex and would repel dirt and bug guts and make it easy to clean. The stuff seemed to work great at keeping the windshield clean, the spots wipe right off now. I have a couple more samples, if you want to email me with your address I will put one in the mail for you. |

Duragloss makes a product that will take acid rain etchings off, aka sun spots. Once removed, keep Rainx on it and no more spots.

Thought I would close the loop on this one. I tried any and all remedies, potions and elixers with no avail. I had my 01 in the shop to get Perfect Pass installed (yeah, baby!) and talked to the detailer. He got it squeaky clean and clear for 75 bucks. I asked him what he used and he said, "Sorry, it is a trade secret..." Oh well.
At least I will be able to see thru the glass dring into the early morning sun running the course! |

Today I had bad hard wter spots & I used 2/3 vinegar 1/3 water, a dash of dish soap. It worked really well. Followed up with glass cleaner.

The vinegar an water is tried and true. Unfortunately it did NOTHING for my spots. It may have well been water.
The astro polish looks intriguing. Any bottle that looks that old school would need to be good! |
