I just upgraded my 86 2001 to the electronic ignition kit from Skidim. The balast resistor on mine was underneath the grey plastic cover on the rear of the engine above the transmission. It will have your main breaker reset button protruding through the plastic cover.

The conversion was simple, Skidim estimated the job at 30 minutes and they were quite generous with there time estimate. I wasn't able to notice a difference in performance immediately but I am sure I will over time since I wont be messing with points!

Good Luck.

On my '84 SN, with the Commander 351 Engine, there wasn't a ballast resistor. There was a resistor wire. It was about 10' long, wrapped around itself.

What he said. Just take the wire off the right side and attach them all to the left side.

Hi all,

I have the kit from Ski DIM to switch out my point system. Here is my question...

Where is the ballest resistor? Is it under all the electrical tape in line on the purple wire? The kit says I have to bypass this resistor and I don't see it..

Any other advice on converting this would be great, I don't want to install it and the boat run bad as I have read some people have had problems switching.

Mike
