should i be looking for a wetsuit top or a rash guard? i don't want anything too thick. i am looking for some heat retention but not a lot. i am in SC so i am just trying o make it through october/november. never used either, just wandering what most people used for some warmth in 65*-70* water? rash guard would be thinner, more flexibility, easier to get a vest on over it. wetsuit top would be a little thicker, looking at a 1.5mm, and a little warmer. just wandering how difficult or uncomfortable that would make a vest? any opinions would be appreciated. thanks!!

Rash guards do not keep you any warmer than bare skin, you would need neoprene.

Heater shirts are what let us ski year-round down here.

okay, i found the heater shirts at barefoot international. there is one that is 1.5mm neoprene and one that is .5mm neoprene. my two questions now are:
a) which thickness to get, and b) do you wear them by themselves or underneath a wetsuit? i think i understand you to mean you wear them by themselves to take the chill off. |

Grant: I think mine is .5mm. I wear it under my b-foot suit which is a farmer john. You are right...wear 'em to take the chill off. Works great in Florida.

I've got a 1.5mm and it works great under my BF suit. I've worn it in 50 degree air temp and it kept me pretty warm. Steve |

10-4, i am going to order one tomorrow, just wandering what thickness to get. i think i will get the 1.5mm and a pair of 2mm shorts and that will be my fall early winter skiing attire. several people i know use that setup as opposed to a wetsuit and have been pretty happy. water temp here is starting to drop now. thanks for the input!! any recommendations on where to buy??
