I need to replace the plug wires. I know these things are engine specific. Has anyone bought any from skidim? They have some that they specify for the 351 so I would like to assume they will fit. Also what about distributor. Do the plug wires have to match up to my distributor brand? One of the sets on skidim said "will not fit Delco distibutors". Suggestions please.
Fuel Filter - Anybody seen this type before? Where can I get it? 
NSS - Can you just replace the NSS only? When you take the NSS out, does oil leak out or is it sealed off from that area?

fuel filter,go to napa with the number and name on the filter.They can cross it over.

SkiDIM is a good company, very helpful.
You should be fine with their wires. NSS--no tranny oil came out when I changed mine. |

Kirk,
I'm assuming that you have checked for power back to the solenoid through the ignition switch and the NSS. Any voltage loss that would indicate a bad ignition switch, NSS or corroded connection? Since you have asked the question regarding oil leaking out of the trans, I know you haven't removed it. There is a cam under the switch that pushes the switch plunger in and out. It may be the problem too. Test the switch with a meter and pull the cam cover plate to take a look. Don't become one of the "parts changers"!!! |

Pete - are you talking about the triangular plate with three screws? Will oil leak out when removed? I definitely don't want to change parts out unnecessarily. I was just thinking out loud for all to hear so I would know once I get there and start troubleshooting.

Kirk, Yes, it's the plate with the 3 bolts in it. The plate is actually the end cap for the valve shaft. Oil will not come out when it's removed. Behind the cap is the cam that I mentioned. It fits into end of the shaft with a small key. These cams can break. Open it up and take a look. "Ohm out" (check for continuity and resistance) the NSS both on and off the trans. So, I take it that you have power down to the NSS but not through it.
Edit: Kirk, I'm assuming you do have a volt ohm meter of some sort - If not get one! I've mentioned it before that they are less than $40 and will come in handy elsewhere - The house, car,etc. |

Sam, Kirk was asking about the fuel filter. Also be prepared to catch a lot of heat regarding the Fram brand. They aren't liked by anyone here on this site!! I've never heard the greatest things about Fram ether. |

Sam - I use a NAPA Gold. It's around $6. It has very robust contruction.
The Fram filter is so cheaply made that they don't even glue the ends of the media (paper filter inside) - it is just folded together. They also use cardboard for internal gaskets. I got this info from a website that compared all brands of oil filters. So for $2 more you can assure good filtration by using NAPA. |

Sam,
I too use the Napa Gold filters. I may have read the same report on filters as Chris (SNobsessed) did but it said the same thing. The Frams are so cheaply made that Autozone carries them!!! Don't listen to advertising hype but rather look for comprehensive reports. |

I can vouch for what Pete and Chris say about the Fram filters. When I was going through the engine repair classes at FCCJ in Jax, Florida we cut several filters open to see what was inside. Among the filters we cut open were Fram, Purolator and Wix and a few others. Of all filters we looked at the Frams appeared to be the cheapest made. The bypass valve spring in the bottom of the filter made a very poor seal (you could see daylight through it). The spring was very weak looking and appeared that it wouldn't take much pressure to unseat it. The pleated paper element had a single string wrapped around its center and tied back upon itself (what was this for?). And as said above the ends of the pleated element were not glued together like on all the other filters we looked at. I'd stay away from Fram oil filter! - Brian
