Not to worry Andy. I have heard of the Miller guy as I am from Ohio. Bet the interior looks great.
Sounds like you have a great business goin' there.
Started the same way as your Dad...climbing poles for Ohio Bell right outa high school. Never made it into the office..retired after 33 years and was still outside. Loved it till the end but now am glad to be done (hear me Gary?)

Sorry John. Missed the last post. Better late than never. I hate dead end threads. Thought I'd clean up mine. Guy like me asks how to do something and doesn't tell everyone how it turned out. The interior turned out great! Used Aaron Miller from Ohio. Amish guy did a great job! The stitching, fabric, color and price.
By the way, my dad was an Illinois Bell man for over 25yrs. Started climbing poles, did residential installs/repairs and eventually made his way into the office.

I noticed the dates...made a post to aok to point out his slowness in answering!

Rolls of Black Slicker...yeah thats a permanent fix in some areas where I worked! I remember that cable. We called it j*p cable because the colors were off a bit. Quess we were not to politically correct. Sometimes (rarely) I miss the old days too. Wait till you're off a few years (almost 5 now!!) you won't miss 'em either!

John, With the large cables, aren't they split into sub groups of 50 or 100 pair because they run out of colors? So if you do make a mistake it really isn't out of the 1800 pair. Just wondering because I do get to talk with the phone guys on occasion. The last time was out back when one was up on the pole trying to repair a rats nest of splices on top of splices. It was under one of the "temporary" black trash bags because it was scheduled for a up grade. That temporary splice point was out there for 12 years! Every time it rained we would need AT&T in! They finally replaced the overhead and brought the junction down to a ped. I guess they don't like ladders anymore!!

Thats not a trash bag Pete,we actually have rolls of plastic and besides if it's been there for 12 yrs,it was a permanent fix.
And John I wonder if you were running into cable from about 10 yrs ago. I remember for sometime around here the colors were off. I think they got the wire cheaper so a bigger donation could be made to the Peggy Notebaert Museum I miss the good old Western Electric days-
I didn't even see the dates of the original posts, oop's

Adam;

Did you ever get your interior done?

Could not believe it when this thread turned back up...with your answer to my question as to what kinda communications you were into. My post with the question was from November 2007! But thats ok...glad to hear what you got going anyhow..even if it did take a year! Sounds like you guys are into all kinds of stuff. Good luck!

Right you are Pete as usual! Pairs are bundled in groups of 25. Same 25 color combos just wraped with a different color tracer. So...you really can't screw up more than 25 pair when you are splicing. Been in many a "temp" splice point wraped in a slicker. And they are going to peds more these days because guys can't climb anymore. We never even used to use a ladder for fear of being called "a ladder lineman"...but guys don't seen to care much about that now-a-days.

Pete: I was getting there...had trouble with brown/orange and violet/slate...had to have lots of light on them little wires and sometimes it is kinda dark where we work...right Gary? It is not cool to get off by one color when splicing in a 1800 pair cable.

I got an email from them recently saying they'd had some problems with email and could I please resend my request. This may also be a reason you didn't hear back from them.

And dont call me Poobah. It sounds ridiculous.

I think he prefers the more formal "Grand Poobah." BKH

From Wikipedia:
"The expression "The Grand PooBah" was first introduced on the television show The Flintstones. Fred Flintstone and his friend Barney Rubble were members of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes Lodge No. 26. A high ranking elected position within this organization is Grand Poobah or Grand Imperial Poobah."

It looks like "Grand Imperial Poobah" is the highest rank.

aok, I don't know first hand because I've never had them make anything for me. I can only say that everyone here says the work is top quality but the prices are up there. I think they can pretty much make any of the older skins that are no longer available from CC.

Erik Lavine has a thread going because he has had work done by the Amish. Let me see if I can find it and link it. I of coarse do not know what parts of the country you're in so it may be a problem!

Good. I was starting to feel bad being the newbie and all. So back to my original question, Christine at Nuatique Skins is the place to go for upholstery?
