I continue to get rust on my chrome trailer wheels. Any suggestions on ways to keep the rust off?

Sandblast and paint or buy new. New will be cheaper than having them re chromed!!

I didn't mention using one of the metal polishes because it's at beat a temporary fix. Yes it will work but not for long. The chrome is gone at the exposed steel is corroding. The chrome job on these wheel is cheap. Chrome only rather than copper plate, nickel plate and then the chrome. It doesn't take much to burn through one thin layer of the chrome. One little pin hole and the rust starts.

Ive used "Bar Keepers Friend" to clean up some minor surface rust on similar chrome wheels. You can find the stuff at Walmart (or similar) in the cleaning aisle. I should have followed up with some wax, but didnt- and they looked great for a year before I had to hit them again.

Tim, thanks for the suggestion of Bar Keepers, did a nice job without a lot of effort. Pete, thanks for the suggestion of sandblasting, the Bar Keepers took care of it for now.
As far as the aluminum rims, maybe next Christmas. |

Reminds of when I had a mustang gt years ago and was telling an older friend about wanting to get some nice new wheels for it. He looked at me with all seriousness and said "what's wrong with these...they don't go 'round?" I didn't get new wheels... |
