It seems like it should have some sort of support. Maybe I'll use your thinner board idea. No, I did not get the gel coat yet. I'm heading for the Key West for a bit and am going to hold off till I get back. I don't want to be half way done and leave the gel sit in a cold garage. March 8th I'll be back with a new sunny attitude. There are seats and other things keeping me busy. Chelle' |

Michelle- I also have the fibreglas seat and it doesn't have any indications of being attached anywhere but across the top of the seat back with a few domes. There are no marks or signs of any floor support or attachment. Did you receive the gel yet?

I have the fiberglass seat and it sits on this board. I ran my floor back to it like original. In hindsite, I wish I ran the floor all the way back to the gas tank mounts and cut a new, thinner board to fit that would support the seat.

Mike, it looks like your seats have the aluminum bases that also support the back cushion? 
If so, then theyre the later (mid 70's and later) buckets. My guess is that your original wood based seats were replaced at some point by a previous owner. My '78 Tique seats:

I am not that positive of the origin of my seats, but they are the aluminum ones. Boat is a 68 Mustang, and her birthday is 21Nov67.

What a nice picture! I didn't know...that's why I am here. Keep in mind that the boat came without seats - so I have no clue. I didn't notice it on the thread I printed out as to how and if they reverse. I'll have to see if I can locate that thread on here and look a little closer. Chelle |

Michelle, the wooden bases were reversible. What makes you think they werent? Our '68 always had the rear facing observer seat- it was a ski boat!
Since the wooden bases are easier (and cheaper) to make yourself and would lend themselves originality, Id stick with them if I were you. |

Michelle- I don't think putting 69 seats in your Mustang would compromise too many peoples principles. In fact there is probably only a handful of Fans who would notice. The truth is that CC updated the seats because they were much more functional and servicable. You would really anoy Tim and I if you come up with a set before we do!!! LOL |

I did print out the dimensions on the wood ones. But, I like the reversible ones. You guys will bend a little...won't ya' LOL....Maybe I can figure out how to make the wood one's reverse? Why would they make the back seat fiberglass and the fronts in wood? My back is fg. Chelle' |

Yup. Like H20 said, the frames can be removed from the tracks and installed in reverse.
No, theyre not. CC didnt start putting these fiberglass buckets in until mid-68. Theyre commonly found in 69-75 boats. '68 and earlier got wood bases and frames- if Im not mistaken, I think the dimensions are on the site here somewhere. |

Michele- Tims picture above(top left of his Jan 14th post) of the blue and oyster seat shows it perfectly. At the bottom are 4 2" round knobs that allow the seat to be removed, reversed and secured again. There are tracks that bolt to the floor.
It appears that the aluminum frames are tough to find and a pair of seats are even more difficult to obtain. Getting both together would be a cause to party!! |

Gary, every time you mention that you junked one of these buckets, I have a *tiny* panic attack. Stop it!
Luckily I have a good set of buckets from my Skier to use as a template- but it sure would be nice to see what the seats look like when its not covered with vinyl and foam. |

Except on the base the edge turned up and the seat bottom is flat.Inside that base is plywood to give support and a place to attach the rails and the cushion. It's almost like you could cut the back off of one of these,attach it to a flat bottom and use it for a mold. On mine where the back made the transition to the bottom was cracked and the plywood was bad. At the time it was easier to make a bench seat like everyone else had,D'oh |

Yes it does. I have my eye on that 'Cuda... normally they dont interest me as much as the Mustangs, Skiers and SN's, but thats a good looking boat. Looks to be complete and original, though definitely a project. Id love to have the buckets, but it would almost be a shame to part that boat out!
