Eric,
They don't rattle in reverse!! The planetary's do whine a little though.

BTW, there are more running hours on those things than on those PCMs you have to keep rebuilding!! Guess what, In all my years of being into the old boats, I have never once heard of someone having to rebuild one because it needed to be.

sht, Eric, Did you forget your Physics 101 from school? It's the twisting force of Torque that will tear apart the trans. Those old mechanicals were on the tail end of 6 and 8 cyl. flat heads that were 600 - 700 Cu.In. with torques up in the 700 ft. lb. range!!

Awesome find Boat Doc. I can't wait to see it in person and possibly grabbing a ride. You might have to sell tickets in GL for people to line up to get a look.

I can't believe Boat Nurse got another boat. You're such a giving husband.

Beautiful! About time you got yourself a boat after being on this site for so long ...

Can't wait to see it, and maybe drive it, in Green Lake this July!

Paul, tried to call over the weekend, all I got was the Voice Mail, and I do not talk well to machines.
Give me a call....... I kinda like the color scheme also.
Got it home and took her all apart, to see what and where . Boy what a step back in time.
Pete has informed me of all the "original stuff" and what needs to be changed. I will try to hit a happy middle ground.
Got the motor to hit and run for a short period last nite, still have a long way to go and only a short time till Green Lake.
We will see what boat we bring, Old Boat/ Fast Boat .........Boat Dr

Billy,

Congrats on your new boat! I remember you talking about wanting to get an older wooden CC last summer at Green Lake. I was looking in the reference section for info on the 49's but did not see too much. What are some of the specifications for the Dart: Length, Beam, etc.

Some 49 literature (courtesy of "cudas51") has
been emailed to Keith so he can get it in the ref. section.

The Dart is 17'2" with a beam of 74". Billy's has the then, "top of the line" Graymarine Phantom model 112. 115hp at 3200 rpm. Premium gas required!!! In it's day, it was a fast boat. Billys is a plywood. The Dart was also available as a "double plank" which was the addition of planking (on top of the ply) to the bottom and hull sides. Two base versions were made. The bottom was a "utility" which means it had the dog house (engine enclosure) over the engine. Then, the next level was a twin cockpit forward "runabout". A runabout has a deck over the engine. Billy's is the runabout version in the "delux" version which according to the literature had cockpit side trim W/glove boxes, linoleum floors and all the other options.

I'll let Billy explain the history (when he gets a chance - I'm sure he's out playing with his new toy!!)

LOL! Oh, boy! You know, Pete. A wood boat is always what I wanted to restore, but I ended up with a 66 Mustang and a 66 Barracuda. I love them both! I am a "step" parent of an 82 Nautique 2001 and together we have the Carver. That said, "if" a wood one would ever pop up and it was feasible, how could I say NO? Blink will kill me if he reads this.

Did you see my new trailer post? I was awaiting an emoticon from you and that way I could tell what you think.

Pete your going to have to take the Atom to GL this year can't let Doc run off with another Best of Show award he's going to need some competion and I'm not sure if Allen's will be finished by then. But what a tough choice it'll be if all three are there. Might have to get the book out and deduct points for non-orginal components.

Billy man words don't describe what a gem you latched onto, hell it's even Blue, might have to make a road trip this year since the date has been moved back just to take agander at that beauty.

and how the hell did you make it home with that *************** ass grin on your face the whole way. Great find my friend hats off to you.

Chelle, sometimes you make it way too easy. This doesnt even need to be Hollywooded.

Yes I did see it but I've just been busy talking about Billys boat. Not that your trailer isn't important because it is. I was planning on commenting.

Glad you went with the Rustoleum because it sprays so easily. Fantastic practice for the gel! I'm however curious as to why you went black. White would have been more original! Looks great from the pictures. Any runs or sags?

Doc, Its a beauty, congratulations. I was wondering the same thing but then I think I figured that one out, weren't you in FL with a friend, is that how the second one got back? If not, is Karen's boat still down in FL, waiting for me to run down and pick it up?

Others have asked but I'm curious too..how did this come about. How did you find it? How long did you have your sights on it?
