That's a nice clean looking boat and those twin carbs always look so "hotrod". Someone must have worked in a mufflershop tho!! |

The biggest problem with this Atom is the bottom has been fiberglassed. You can already see that screws are pushing out on the glass (in the picture of the transom) from the wood being soaked with water. This is a ply boat and the wood should not be wet!! The hull being glassed tells me there's a much deeper problem. Most likely the ply letting loose from the frames and probably rot in the transom frame - a common area. Glassing is a "quick and dirty" coverup!! Yes, the interior has been upholstered non original which is reversible. At least the paint scheme on the hull looks close although I would question the bronze bottom paint. I emailed the seller asking about the bottom. We'll see what he has to say!!! |

Looks like this might be a good buy if the bidding traffic is light:
'82 It sits high in the water so maybe the foam isn't fully soaked! |

yea it's what I had on mine, all you have to do is drive out the roll pin with a punch and swap gears and install and set timing, Eddie, Keith or Mark should be able to hook you up on the swap.

John, Check out the "Correct Craft Panther" thread below in the general section. Some info on the boat and I did get one answer back (not much!!) from the seller. I'm not bidding! I've still got a boat waiting for me under a tarp to restore!! |

Hey Pete, yeah I just finished reading that thread. Saw the boat and posted before I checked the latest gossip! Interesting find. I wasn't looking at it for myself either but noticed it had taken a few bids already and that piqued my curiosity.

Awesome! I sure hope to see it at GL '10. Is the X55 coming this year?

Tim,
No, it's not the Rinker - It's in pretty great shape. It's a 1918 give or take 18' cedar strip on oak frame launch. I got it off a island estate up north. It was the original boat used to transport people and push a barge to the island. Lot's of construction supplies went across on the barge! There's a fairly large home, a stable and a green house on the island. Cool old boat! I was able to find some old photos of it that pictured horses on the barge. The original engine was magneto so it has kerosene running lights and a carbide (like a miners lamp) search light. It was converted to electric (probably when engine #2 was installed with electric start and conventional ignition) but I'm hoping to find the original carbide guts. The Rinker is now priced down to $2500.00. I do not want to store that damn thing another year!! BTW, it's got a new lower unit and a "fly high" pylon I made for the kids learning to board. Kev, The launch looks like it's going to be a retirement project plus it sure wouldn't be a very ideal boat for GL. I'd have to stay in the bay!! Yes, if my plan works out, the X55 will be at GL this summer. |

Andy,
That's a Skylark. Notice the port side helm. The Universal V6 wasn't made in a RR and since all the Skylarks came with that engine, all had the port helms. |
