Is the boat still a 6 Volt system. Battery looks like 6 V. My old Chris Craft was 6 and I went to a 12V. Changed starter, coil, condenser and lights.

As some of you know we left Astor headed to Key West to spend some time there before coming back to La.
Karen and I had already made a verbal buy on a 1954 Atom Skier, but after unwrapping the dealership found it was missing one important part. The motor and tranny were removed for the transport of the boat and no one knew of it's whereabouts. There were two of the Atoms there, but not wanting to get into another rebuild and God only knows the can of worms the engine swap was to uncover, we bailed on the Atom purchase.
While inspecting the two Atoms and talking Karen "OUT OF BUYING ANOTHER PROJECT",we found this one still in shrink wrap hidden in the corner.
The owners did not "really know what she was.Various names and year models were tossed around but uncertainty was rampant.
Names and dates did not mean much, cause I saw a boat that "I" wanted.I did not know what she was , but I knew there was a reason the Maloons had bought and restored this boat.
All of this happened on Friday AM, armed with little info on the beam and length , I questioned Bud Sellers at the river run on Sat. He really did not know what it was, but he did know what it was NOT.
Monday we return to the dealership to sign papers and and say goodbye to her for at least a month and we head out to Key West and arrive there at 10:30 pm Monday nite.
Tuesday AM I get a phone call from Woody giving me Motor #s & Hull ID #s. This info is passed onto Pete and to Bud, this info along with length and beam prove she is indeed a Dart.
Now here Karen and I are in Key West and all I can think of is how do I get TWO BOATS HOME???????????
Idea #1 rent a U HAUL and pull it back to La. Karen will pull her boat , I will drive the U Haul. I love it when a plan comes together. Then the hiccup, 1500.00 to use their truck to pull a boat 850 miles,NOT GONNA DO IT...........
Idea #2 Call my Son and have him drive from La. to Orlando pick up the boat and we will caravan back, this plan WORKED.
We left Orlando at 2:00 pm on Thursday and arrived in Monterey La. at 2:00 AM Friday .We drove 3000 miles in 8 days, what a trip , what a great time at the Astor and to top it all off Billy Got a new boat for his birthday.
Karen just went to the bank and paid off the loan I took out to buy Her, what a Great Wife.............Boat dr

Billy, was the Dart part of a not-so-secret stash of boats that we've heard bits and pieces about over the last year or so?

Outstanding choice. Is she named or are you going to name her?

I suggest "Boudain"!

Billy,
Just to make sure, you do not have one of these? You did say you didn't see any other thru hull fitting besides the engine water intake.

BTW, 6V bilge pumps are still available. I do have the siphon bailer in my Atom but never thought there was a need for a bilge pump. As explaned to Dave (moj), I don't need to soak my wood because it doesn't leak like some do.

Gary, Your probably right. It's taken almost 35 years to get Pam "broken in" .....I would hate to start all over!

In thinking back, I think the only time I "lost" was when she found out I was looking at a Harley a few years ago. I think her exact words were "I know your going to do what you want,BUT".......
.....I bought another boat instead.

Still gotta long way to go,but the end is in sight.New bottom paint, 1 side completed along with the "boot top" . Now to do the stern and begin on the port side.
No motor work required, as I am truly a "NEWBIE" when it comes to that old iron.
Parts sent to the platers today, more parts on order, completion and maiden voyage the end of April......Boat dr

I will take all credit , both the good and the bad that comes with boat. There were existing paint lines under the many layers that I ground off.
The colors were the light blue under the cutwater and boottop, base color was some strange bright green with a sun yellow interior combing pads.
Do not know about the seats tho.The blue and white with light blue combing pads will work for me .........Boat dr

I know this is a bit random. But every time I here the dart mentioned. It reminds me of this old TV ad that had cult status in Australia.

Not the Dart

Every time you needed a part for anything it was "Oh.. No.. not the dart"

Billy,

That's beautiful!!!

The picture that Pete posted. Is that the "outlawed"-for lack of better words - piece they used to use for a bilge? The one that would suck water back up into the boat (reverse)?

Would you want one of those?

That's the old bilge pump, worked by the vacuum of the water moving by the through-hull fitting. Have one that came on my Atom as Well. From what I hear, they worked pretty well.

Nate,
They are referred to as "siphon bailers". A common problem with them is the small vent hole on the top of the U tube can get plugged up and then they will reverse siphon if the boat is left in the water. If you get hull insurance some companies will require a hull survey and the surveyor will ask for the bailers removal or to render it non operable.

This is what Michelle (sanity) is referring too with a previous post I made.

Mike , glad to see you surfaced. This boat was bought while we were in Orlando for the river run.
It was one of the museum boats that "WERE" going on display at CC corporate office. All that blew up and I was able to acquire title to said "1949 CorrectCraft Dart"
Had always wanted one , just did not want the RESTO Job that comes as part of the purchase price.
This one was basicly complete, all lacking was a first rate paint job,and this I am trying so hard to give the old girl.
More pics later, she is now sitting on the trailer for a trial fit.......Boat dr
