Hello Everyone,
Just thought I would introduce myself. I am from Chilliwack, BC Canada. I have never owned a Correct Craft, my family had an '88 Malibu Skier back in '88 and then a '93 Ski Brendella which my parents sold about 10yrs ago when my brother and I weren't able to spend the summers on the Shuswap lake anymore. Anyways I now have a young family of my own and am thinking of getting a tournament boat. I have always been drawn to the classic Nautiques, '70's-early '80's. My question is what do I need to look for when looking at 30yr old cc's? I have been doing some reading on here and it seems rotten stringers can be a problem, is this just an age problem or a poorly maintained problem? I won't ramble on any further right now. I am sure I will have lots of questions to come. Thanks ahead of time for the great site. |

Welcome, it's a construction problem that all brands of boats have that were built with wood floors and/or stringers, which is about everything made before 1994 or there abouts.

Wacko - With a handle like yours you should fit right in. Welcome to the site. These guys will help you find the right boat; there are plenty in the diaries plus posts from Ebay & Craig's list. We all want a fleet of our own but are limited by rational 'significant others'!

Craig,
I think the year SNs your looking at are some of the most solid built and best looking boats on the water. Plus are really pretty affordable. A lot of the stringer rot problem originated from the fact the foamed hulls tended to hold water in them. Good luck on your search!! |

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have located a boat relatively close by. I haven't been able to get out to look at it in person yet but from the pictures I have been sent i am confused about the model year. It is said to be a 1984 Ski Nautique but the interior, paint and grafics, don't seem to match up to any of the 1984's I have found on this site.
I realize the boat may have been repainted and possibly the wrong graphics put on, but the interior does not seem to be the right style either. Would love to get some experienced feed back on what year and model you all think this is. |

The boat is definitely a 82-84 Ski Nautique, Id guess late '83 or '84 based on the windshield. Get the HIN (upper right on the transom) and we can tell you for sure. The deck has been painted and the stripe has been repainted as well. Graphics would have been paint/stencil, not the decals you see. The interior has either been redone just like the factory job, or (more likely) is original.

I agree with TRBenj. The motorbox says 83/84.

There's so much going on with that boat it's hard to trust what might be original or not.

I agree. I mentioned in another thread that the current owner says it was a custom order for a Ski Show. It has a 454, dual cable steering, metal flake paint, the interior seems more basic than the '84 brochure shows, no back seat and the wrong graphics. He says his buddy has owned it for the past 20yrs. |

Only because bass boats always seem to have the metal flake. Of course California style jets do too! |

The 2001 hull was specifically used for Sea World and NOT Cyprus Gardens. Cyprus Gardens was using at this time specifically Master Craft and most of those boats were blue and white. The Ski Nautique had just enetered the arena at Sea World! Cyprus Gardens used Correct Crafts back when they were made of wood and used them through the 1960's and stopped sometime in the early 1970's! Before this Sea World was using outboard boats like the glasstron-Carlson! Here is the photo taken of the boat that you are discussing from 1984 with all true colors shown. Included was a small write up from my Sea World program. I hope that this helps clear any confusion. The graphics on the side are not right, it is from a 1988, but notice that the stripe does not tail upwards where the 2001 sticker would go! Also the dash is clearly from a 1984 with the wood grain look and that special 2001 gold dash decal! Keep in mind that Sea World would pull their special pylon after the season and replace it with the 1984 factory pylon for obvious reasons! The pylon in the picture was made for Sea World shows!

Looks like that would be unique boat to own, and unlike most of the folks out there claiming some special edition, you could prove this was a sea world boat. BKH

Is there a big difference in gas mileage from a 350 to a 454?

Only when the engine is running, LOL. Under heavy loading the 454 may be equal to or use less fuel then the 351, when operating with nominal load, single skier, footer, etc. the 351 should be more economical. |
