I am blown away and impressed. The bar keeps getting higher and higher. I logged in to crack a simple joke but after looking at the pics I cannot bring myself to do it. Very nice work.

I agree looking at this project. It's intriguing!
Looks like B.J. made his own forms and laid up glass floor panels!! |

Pete got bingo! I got a good description of how he does this bar raising work, but I'm clearly not worthy to speak for him.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the kind words of bar raising talent, and however true, it is not my own. The masterful work you see is that of the "Wizard". He is the force behind my restoration projects. I am a gorilla grinding hack and I do what he tells me to do. I have been privileged to stand in his shadows the last four to five years and learn a little. It is impossible adequately to describe his abilities, even the pictures don't do justice. bj |

BJ, it looks great! Curious as to the weight . . . more than or less than wood and fiberglass?

Hey Chuck, It has been a long time, Thanks for the interest. And I am not 100% sure but in the end it come out close to same.
The foam sheets and nidacore are very light in weight but they are laminated with mat and 1808. I have laid up additional glass in the bottom of the hull and I laid up the main stringers in one skin and six times in 1808. It is over built and unbelievably strong. In am very pleased with the materials and process. What I know for sure is how the Ski Nautique already completed displaces water when sitting next to other 81's and that is the same. |

Chuck, just another note is this. Although it won't all get used, When I started this project I bought a 55 gal. drum of polyester resin, A roll of 1.5 ounce mat that weighed about 95 pounds and a roll of 1808 that weighed 179 pounds and 7 gallons of gel coat. That is a lot of weight. Having said all that an empty hull weighs near nothing.

Cool. A monocoque Natique!!!When you taped the bulkheads to the hull, did you tape them twice (once in each direction?).

The side ribs is how I'm doing mine to eliminate the use of foam.
I am just using wood though. Great work. |

Chuck, Sorry for the delay in responding. The bulkheads are laminated on both sides with a layer of 1808 and a layer sandwiched in the middle. Susequently, they are layed up with one layer of 1808.Finally, the compartments will all be filled with foam.
