You could always haul it to White Lake and have the specialists do it. Remember they use that special -100F antifreeze. Don't worry about the $300 tab because as a added bonus the dudes in the yard will light one up and share it.

Now, if it's too far of a trip, you can follow this procedure. It's a great tread and has more pictures in it that the manual.

I would rather be a prick with an uncracked block.

I did offer some really, really sound advice: Always drain your block no matter what you do after.

Sorry you feel that way but you pushed us into it by repeatedly not taking the advice we gave. Our combined experience is years beyond yours and with your present attitude you will never catch up.

It took lottsa years of OB,IB and Stern drive service and repairs to be as prickey as I am. Seen lots like you come and go in this industry.Wisdom is an amazing quality, I know less now than I did 30 years ago, I let the grey hair do my talking. I do the service orders and order and install the parts needed, Karen takes the money.
I do not try to dazzle the owner, just swap him my ability for his dollars. Seems to work real well for an OLD MAN.........

Winterizing is what we do instead of battoning down the hatches for a hurricane.

Hahaha - for sure. Also, it is what we do instead of catching falling vases during earthquakes. Or tricking off of gators.

Of course, this excludes Alan, who will have to winterize his Hurricane.

I wonder if he will drain it.

Ok then what's with the anti-Freeze?
Even when I lived in Montana I drained my Nautiques and MasterCrafts and left the plugs out til spring.
That's what we do at the factory before shipping.

This is a very touchy subject!I have just pulled plugs in the past(2nd year boat owner).I am curious to the af,do you pull it in or remove a hose? Then do you leave full and pump into lake in spring?I have the GT 40 do you fog through the intake or each cylinder, and what do you fog with?
PS I am not a marina mechanic nor did I play one on tv,please be gentle.

Rob,

Yeh I know there is allot to this thread so in case you missed some:

Yes on the hose - see the linked thread. Since you use RV AF, it can go in the lake without harm.

But what you have been doing is fine and draining only is still common.

With all the water drained out, 0 gallons of antifreeze would be fine. Some drain only and have no problems. I only use about a 1/2 gallon per boat simply as a extra "just in case" there's some water still in a block.

I'd like to tell you that draining only was the normal procedure since the advent of the water cooled engine up until I'd say the early 70's. Some marinas and many individuals still drain only.

Some will say using using all that antifreeze is so the block will completely fill and add corrosion protection. Does it really do much good? You will never get it completely full especially by pumping. Also keep in mind plain old water sits in it all summer.

I've always fogged down the carb. keep giving it gas so it doesn't choke out, wait for the smoke out the tail end and lower the RPM's until it dies. Aerosol fogging oil is available but I've always use 50% Marvel Mystery and 50% engine oil out of one of the pump oil cans.

Quite the contrary the advice provided by this site's regular members is second to none; unlike your ill advised method to not drain the engine block combined with a "special -100 degree" antifreeze.

Furthermore, I have learned a great deal of information about Correct Craft boats from the combined experience of these CCFan members. Please try to refrain from making derogatory comments on this forum and refrain from posting poor advise to members on this forum.

Pete, He'll have to fog through the plug holes if it's an EFI gt40 as that's a dry intake. So it's not really a fogging as much as a 2 second shot into the cylinders. The aerosol is much easier in this case.

Alan,
Fill me in on a EFI. Being so old school, I've never done one!!! You're saying that even a aerosol fogging oil sprayed into the air intake won't make it into the engine. I also seem to remember that there is a special port on the intake to hook up a can of fogging oil?

I winterize a boat that has a 377 Mercriuiser. It has the kind of efi that looks like a carb and I fog it. I've heard the other type, which is probably multi port, cannot be fogged. This type even uses a paper type flame arrestor, I guess because they have a dry intake. They are supposed to be much safer engines because of that. No water seperating fuel filter on efi either.

I winterize the 377 with the owner. We have never changed its lower unit oil. It's a duo prop. I'm always worried that if he has a few drops of water in there, it's going to crack during the winter, but he always proves me wrong.

Of course it's safer if the heat/power doesn't go out at his house. I don't think he's gotten to one of his wish list items - a whole house back up generator with a automatic transfer switch! With the last ice storm that knocked out power for days, I think he ran extension cords from the generator in the RV!! You need to be home to do that.

So you drain the block. Then run it. Then pour in the antifreeze. Then run it again and fog it? Or am I mixed up?

As long as your bong water is a 50/50 mix of -100 A/f and water and you don't drop Dorito crumbs in the thermostat you should be OK.

Just don't fog with the bong water, you will attract a lot of undesirable attention in the Spring.
But, you may not care at that point.
