Well I think the hard wood floor look in alot of jet/speed boats looks really cool. I do want to restore the boat. At the same time I want to put my own spin on things. The boat that I am restoring will never be worth what I have in it so why sell it? I think this is a job that I can customize this boat just for me needs and what I like. If this was something that I would want to sell in a few years I would go back with the original everything I could get my hands on or make. That is not the case. The boat new was like 5K. I paid 4K for the boat and the floor is 1K, new engine 2K, misc. 1K, tower 1K, stereo 1K. What Im getting at is there is no reason for selling. This can be a boat that my kids can enjoy when I upgrade.

Pete will remind you that by definition, a restoration restores the factory appearance. Deviating from it doesnt fit the description! Personally, I think the wood floored look is silly- but to each their own. I can tell you that I have never regretted returning something to its factory look. Other times, I have deviated and have regretted it later. Thats not always the case, but its certainly a greater possibility- or maybe its just me. I cant tell you how many times Ive looked at used boats and just had to shake my head at what the previous owner had done to it. I would MUCH rather they left it in its factory condition (even if it would have been in rougher shape because of it) than to change it by butchering it. It makes it harder to bring it back and diminishes its value- at least to me. |

Why not rebuild as it should be then fit something like this over the floor, picked these samples up at the boat show, not real wood but a vinyl that slots together which is stuck to the floor, at a stretch you could say its original just not the same print
Here is a link Dek-King if we have it here I'm sure its in the US too. |

Roger!!!! Of all the people I know that are into wood, I never thought you would be one to promote fake wood! Of course, you do have that composite side to you as well!

Clark:
Remember, the Paragon's (94's) had Teak flooring (not carpet over fiberglass).....so it HAS been done (and from factory). After pricing Teak, I wouldn't recommend it, but I'm sure there is a creative alternative (jotoba, Ipe, etc). Maybe Quinner or another member familiar with Paragon's could chime in on how it was done........ Looks GREAT in brochures (but that is a different boat) ... don't really know of it's actual attachment application.... |

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has toyed around with wood in my boat?

Steve, i think I read somewhere it was screwed down and filled with bungs. I also reading somewhere that the paragins were sent somewhere else and decked outside the factory. Don't quote me in this as I'm just trying to remember off the top of my head.

That makes it about as fitting a restoration as putting a tower on an Atom Skier because Correct Craft put towers on Super Air Nautiques. Not applicable! |

Well In alot of jet boats that are on keystone lake they have what seems to be like a 1/4 of a iinch of resin overthe wood. It really looks sharp to my eye.

Certainly NOT a restore..... but certainly has been done. I appreciate these boat's as they were originally..... just tryin' to help a fella out. My opinions on restore vs. "upgrade" don't matter - it is his boat...... He can even use Coosa in his floor if he wants........but I don't know if that is an "upgrade" or a 'restore"

I guess we would have to ask Pete! I would suspect that things of that nature that cant be inspected (so they appear as they would have from the factory on the outside) would still be considered acceptable as a "factory restoration". I dont believe ACBS judges frown upon internal engine modifications either. |

Modern materials such as adhesives are not frowned on and infact encouraged. A good example would be using 5200 for a wood boat restore. On a double plank bottom, 1 point extra is given for original construction IE: still double planked , 5200 instead of canvas/bedding compound ok and no fiberglass and certainly not a single layer glassed bottom. With a glass boat, the same would hold true if a composite is used for a stringer job. Engine mods are cool as long as the external appearance is the same. Yes, it's sort of a rule that's not discusssed too much. If hidden it's not a problem. OK, back to the floor- flake board with a 1/4" of bar top resin poured on top of it?? |

See Clark..... you won't be able to sneak that floor past the judges! I would just be happy if my kids don't leave their junk in the boat. We really use ours and have fun -esp. with the Air. I am a little more particular with the Tique, so I know where Tim is comin' from.... certainly do love the "original" look of the old Correct Crafts!! Just funin with ya' Tim........ |

The wood floors in the Paragon looked awesome and were so easy to clean, unlike carpet. As Chris mentioned above, the mahogony work was all done outside the factory in upstate NY somewhere as was the top coat of the gel work (all Paragons where built white at the factory and sprayed later with color), don't recall if that included the teak floors.

Looks like you remembered correctly there Steve. From Quinners pictures, it looks like the teak floor is screwed down and filled. |

Chris - I bet you would kill if someone stepped into your boat with sandy shoes on!
What a beautiful boat, BTW. |

This in a synthetic product but looks very good. I recently installed a good bit of it in the basement.
http://www.konectousa.com/products_plank.html?productTitle=prestige&collection=Prestige%20Collection I would think you are going to have some problems trapping water between the floor planks and what ever sub-decking you put in. I have interlocking foam floor mats (2x2's) in my wood boat which are nice because you can take them out to let the boat dry. Frank |

Well I have already sanded the side walls down so the could be painted. I just think it would be neat. I'm going to make it look kind of like a affliction shirt.

Clark had a look at your old stringers you show and your right, there is a difference along the top, yours look straight around the engine mounts and has only a small drain hole though the stringers, the hull shape should be around the same they must of updated them between 74 to 78

only difference I believe is where the motor mounts are it's notched on the later models due to a new style engine mount verses being flat and a wood wedge was used in the early days but from 74-81 the hull is the same other than minor style changes, windshield's, scoops, interior, gauges but no changes to the bottom but the top cap was changed in '79 so the speedo's wheren't mounted to a piece of plexiglass.
