Jim,
I just did a diary search and entered 1960 to 1964. I found lots of modern replacement wheels (Metal ventilated spokes and "outboard" plastics!) but did find one picture that may help. Brian's Atom: Take a look for yourself too. Not very many close ups though. Stay away from the Classics as they were considered a higher end boat and had fancier wheels - "turnpike cruiser" wheels. The wheel Marty just repaired and posted isn't a bad one to look at ether even though he painted the complete wheel it will give you a idea. Did you ever take a look at the ACBS and Blackhawk chapter sites I gave you links too? I'm still out looking for members!! |

I tried a dairy search that only brought up boats. How do you find parts?

Jim, Brian's Atom is in the diaries. I just posted the picture from there. Marty's wheel was just in one of the threads so that's where I got it. There's no search for parts. You just hope there's a fairly close up picture ether in the diaries or the reference section for what you're looking for! |

Phil, I dont think that style wheel was used on a car. It really isnt very heavy and doesnt have any accomodations for a horn. I have seen them used on other boats tho. |

Jim, When I purchased the Tique several years back, I brought it home to Illinois and it was going to be several months before I hauled it up to my place in Wisconsin. I wanted to get it in the water for a spin so having a friend on Powers, he said bring it up. Got it home after a successful run on Powers only to find one problem. I wish my friend had told me to bring the vinegar water in a spray bottle for a rinse at the launch. Powers must have been a old limestone quarry!! I've never been on a lake with such a high mineral content. After it dried, I had to go after the spotting with "Limeaway"!! Plan on bringing that boat to the Lake Geneva show next fall!!! 2010 is a "normal" Blackhawk chapter show so you don't even need to be a ACBS member. In 2011 we will be hosting the international so then there's talk of restricting registration for boats to members only. (but by then, I'll have you talked into joining!!!!) It's possible we may see 400 boats so it will be tight. We're still working on the logistics of fitting that many boats in the Abby harbor - lots of resident boats need to be moved. BTW, last fall a award went to one of own own CC owners: did you see this thread? |

I can't believe your talking about Powers. I've played there since 1949 and never experienced what you did. The lake is spring fed with an overflow which results in a constant exchange of water. We do have a new problem though with the wake boarders plowing along in shallow water and stirring up the bottom. It takes till about Tues. afternoon for the water to clear up and then comes another weekend. Oh Well, more people--more problems! |

Jim,
Unless there's another Powers lake south of 50 west of 12 with a big rock bar off the point going into the south bay then I must have been on a different lake! The friend who has the house on this lake actually apologized when I mentioned the mineral water spotting and said he should have warned me. No big deal, the stuff came off the boat and it gave me a opportunity to give it another coat of wax!! Kevin, what's your take on Powers? |
