Sorry for being "that thread starter guy". I guess I'm just a little early getting excited about summer this year. We had a warm snap of about 34 degrees last week and it got me excited.

What do you all use for watersports in cold weather? All I've ever used are shorty wetsuits. Is a dry suit really necessary? I've been thinking about buying a full wetsuit so I can get onto the water at least by May. What's the highest neoprene thickness to get and still be able to move?

How about brands?

Folks in my neck of the woods wear dry suits in the cold season and shorts in the summer. The dry suit with a insulation layer keeps us warm while out of the water in between runs as well as when skiing. Some members of our ski club are able to water ski all winter in near freezing temps. I don't do it but the dry suit does extend my season by a couple months on each end.

You can find them used on ski-it-again.com pretty often.

OH, on brands most folks in our club have O.S. Systems suits as well as me. No complaints, others are probably good too.

Thanks for the ski it again tip. I've been looking for somewhere to look for a used ski! I'd like something a little more challenging than what I have.

I wear all of the following throughout the season, although I usually go right from a heater shirt to the bag. Lugging around a wet full wetsuit is annoying.

O.S. Systems Breeze Bare drysuit
5mm diving gloves (in the boat)
7mm diving boots (in the boat)
4/3 full wetsuit
Fleece or neoprene heater shirt
3/2 or barefoot suit

I'm on the same program. Always wear underarmor or other moisture wicking against your skin.

Your barefoor suit or at least some padded shorts. The suit will help keep you warm.
